Birth weight, labor, intrauterine growth restriction

Mar 18, 2012 12:32

Earlier this week I was talking with someone about our births.  I was musing over the fact that I felt I should have been bigger and taller than I currently am, if only because both my sisters are taller than my mom whereas I'm the shortest in the family.  I then told them about what my mom had told me: That there was something wrong with her/my ( Read more... )

You can never tell. My mother told me that, when we were kids (I have an older sister and older brother), I was always the first to get sick; they'd always be worst with me; and last the longest. But today, unlike my siblings, I hardly ever get sick and I'm in the best physical shape of the 3 of us (granted, they both smoke and I never did). go figure.

They're be worst with you, or than you? I've a weaker constitution, I believe, than my older sisters. I'd get ill more frequently or generally feel under-the-weather, but like your siblings, when they got hit, it was pretty bad.

Ah, smokers...

I was born 7lbs and 3 weeks late. There was nothing wrong with me. I also had some kind of issue with breastfeeding so had to switch to soy formula. It is considered a possibility that I didn't reach my full height due to my disordered eating habits, starting at age 11. I'm 3" shorter than my mother, who is the shortest in my family besides me. I also grew all through high school to reach my current height. I remember you were 5' about at 13, right? I was about 4'6" then.

I can't even bowl with a 7lbs ball; not consistently, at least. I sometimes switch between 6lbs and 7lbs but overtime 7lbs become too heavy for me. I really admired the sheer strength of pregnancy women to go through labor with such additional weight centered right there! How their backs must ache...

Soy formula... Do you eat or drink soy products/soy milks now? I sometimes have soy sauce when I have sushi or Chinese but I avoid soy milk like heck. Yeah, I think I was around 5' when I was 13 years old. I started my period when I was 11 and were growing breasts before then so I think, puberty time-wise, it'd make sense I'd reach my full height several years after I got my first period.

Actually I'm not supposed to have too much soy due to the hypothyroidism, but I used to eat Luna bars, which have a lot of soy.

I think I started my period on the early-side for my development. I was about 13 1/2 but still wore a 30AA bra and looked much younger than my real age. I reached my full height sometime in high school.

My goodness, all of you were itty bitty babies.

Aidan was just a hair over 6lbs. I don't remember what I weighed. My mom told me but I forgot.

Yeah, it seems we were itty bitty babies!

I bowl with a 6lbs ball and my arm aches after about two games. I can't imagine carrying 6lbs inside me for 40 weeks!

LOL well they're not at that weight til the very end, probably the last 1 or 2 weeks if even that. But it does get uncomfortable at the end.
