It had been four years since their break up but not once did the both of them forgotten about their fate, the last night that they shared together. The pain, the tears, holding each other closely for one last time, the bittersweet memories were still vivid in the back of their minds.

It was too painful …

“Even if we’re far apart, I’ll love you forever.” Jin whispered, pulling his girlfriend into his embrace. “You’ll always be in my heart.”

Takako looked up at her boyfriend with teary-eyes. She looked down, unable to control her emotions any longer. This man in front of her, the one she truly loves and treasures the most, wouldn’t be hers anymore come the sunrise.

Why was fate so cruel to them?

The need to part despite them loving each other so much, they didn’t have any choice or say in that matter at all. This beautiful love was being destroyed by selfish paparazzis, a love that wasn’t accepted by anyone else.

“Jin …” Takako clutched on Jin’s sleeves, leaning her head on his chest. “I’ll love you forever too.”

That was the last time they saw each other.

-

Akanishi Jin was watching 24 hour television last year when he realised that the disbanded group, SPEED was on. His eyes remained glued on the screen, his attention to a certain member.

“You’ve grown mature, Taka.” Jin bit his lips, feeling nostalgic.

He found out later that SPEED would reunite, and re-formed permanently after eight long years. His lips formed into a smile despite the tears that kept on pouring, his heart feeling happy for his someone special.

-

At first, when Jin found out that SPEED would also appear on NTV’s Best Artist 2008, he panicked. He wouldn’t know what to do if he ever meets his ex by chance. It was not that he didn’t want to meet her, but he knew that it would be awkward. The same goes for her as well.

He calmed down when he reassured himself that such coincidence didn’t always occur.

Fate however responded differently than what he thought it would be. They crossed path for the first time in four years. Jin was on his way to the rest room while Takako seemed to be hurriedly heading in the direction of SPEED’s dressing room. Their eyes met, they paused for a moment as they looked at each other sadly.

When reality strikes Takako, she immediately bowed and walked past her ex-boyfriend without a glance back. Her heart was hurting and she could feel the pain of yesterdays all over again, they were resurfacing in an instance.

Jin clenched his fist as he watched her retreating back diminishing from his sight slowly yet gradually.

Once Takako was in SPEED’s dressing room, she immediately collapsed on a chair. Placing her bag on the make-up table, she took out one precious item, a necklace that holds their ring, and held it dearly to her chest.

Why can’t I still move on? Why does it have to be you?

Takako thought painfully.

-

White X’Mas was really a sad song. To Jin, it was a song for Takako and him. He could feel the pain when he first sang it and he could still feel it now, singing on NTV’s Best Artist.

anata wo mitewaratta seinaruyoru ni
namida ga afuretane eien ni sukinanoni naze

I smiled at you on that sacred night
The tears overflowed, though I will love you forever, why?

Singing this soulful song made him remember their times together. His verse was really painful and he put all his soul in singing it because those two lines hit him hard, those were the promise that he’d made with Takako on their last night together, that he’d love her forever.

He loved her, and still loves her now.

-

“Yahhh … it’s nostalgic seeing old clips of us.”

Takako answered when she was asked how she felt seeing old clips of SPEED. She appeared calm but in actual fact, she still hadn’t recovered from her sudden meeting with her ex. It was just too abrupt and not at the right timing.

Seeing you after a long time was nostalgic.

Takako nodded her head, remaining silent after that, simply listening to the other members speaking. When SPEED made their way to the stage to perform their medley, Takako knew she had to do her best because Jin would be watching.

For him, I would smile and put in my best.

-

2009 was officially a new year for all, a new start for SPEED.

It is also proved to be the year for KAT-TUN, with the 10 days tour in Tokyo Dome announced followed by 3 days in Osaka. KAT-TUN also had released their 10th single. It would certainly be a meaningful year for them.

KAT-TUN was invited to Music Station’s Spring Special.

Jin was there to witness the clip of SPEED’s last live on Music Station nine years ago. The clip took the No. 3 spot and it had Takako, who was only seventeen then, crying. Somehow watching that clip hurts him right in the heart.

It reminded him of that night and Takako’s tears.

Tears were shed because of him, because he was a JE idol where expectations had to be met. Because of what he is, they had to part ways and lead their own life separately. If he wasn’t Akanishi Jin, they wouldn’t have to break up and still lead a happy life together.

Fate … is so cruel to them.

Jin was on the verge of crying. He was thankful that the camera wasn’t on him.

-

Takako was searching for a new pair of clothes to wear in the wardrobe when she notices her treasure box at a corner, untouched for years since that day. She contemplates whether to have a look at it again. After a moment of hesitation, Takako grabbed the box and sat on her bed.

She took a deep breath before opening the treasure box that was filled with precious memories of Jin and her. Taking out item by item, Takako reminisced as she smiled. Her emotions however faltered as she looked at the last item.

It was the very last photo of them together.

Takako bit her lips, trying to prevent the tears from falling but to no avail. Frustrated for being so weak, she let out a scream and pushes her treasures to the floor. Her body curled into a ball as she poured out her feelings.

It hurts. Not having you by my side truly hurts.

-

Once again, as if luck wasn’t on their side, KAT-TUN and SPEED would appear on the same music program, this time being Music Station. It was no use feeling nervous about someone that is no longer hers so Takako blocked out those feelings, and pretended as if Jin had not been a part of her before.

Thus when she coincidentally met Jin in the elevator, she kept her gaze on the buttons, ignoring the person behind her. The atmosphere was tense between them but she couldn’t care less. She let out a surprised gasp when her hand suddenly lost grip of her wallet that she was holding.

“Here.” Jin immediately picked the wallet up and handed it to her.

Takako made the mistake in looking at her ex-boyfriend’s in the eye. She felt familiar pain, feeling that tears would fall out any second. Biting her lips, she accepted her wallet and flashed a forced smile to Jin.

“I’m sorry.” She apologised formally.

“How … are you?”

Jin asked just when Takako reached her level. The elevator’s door opened, and Takako stepped out of it without a reply to Jin’s question. She kept on walking forward as she listened to the sound of the elevator’s door closing.

How am I?

Takako leaned against the nearest wall and closed her eyes.

Of course, I am not fine. Ever since that day, I am not myself and I know that goes the same for you too. We are two individuals who are deeply hurting, torn apart by the cruel fate.

“Taka?”

Hiroko’s voice brought her to the real world. Her eyes fluttered open as she smiled at her friend.

-

Jin had dated many girls after Takako but none of them could ever replace her in his heart. Takako is special and forever will be. Her existence is important to Jin and even though they’ve broken up, he would look out for her from afar.

He would always remember their love.

Jin’s solo song Care was written for Takako, the lyrics penetrated deep into his heart, hurting him. He was willing to sacrifice having a new solo song as long as he was given the chance to record this special song.

Jin wanted to convey a message to Takako that he hadn’t forgotten about their love.

-

It was the first time in history to have KAT-TUN and SPEED together on Music Station. SPEED was the first to be called upon while KAT-TUN was last. The two groups were equally as popular as screams erupted the minute each group went out.

The two groups were standing close to one another, the hosts in between.

Takako stood far away from the hosts as of Jin too. It seemed as if there was friction separating them. When their groups were being introduced, they kept quiet and simply looked onto the monitor in front of them.

Pretence and façade could only last for a moment before one of them breaks down …

-

The recording for Music Station was long over. All of the members except Jin had left the dressing room. He stared into the thin air, heaving out a long deep sigh. Glancing at his wrist watch, he realised that it was late. Getting up, Jin grabbed his bag and walked out of the room.

Instead of taking the elevator down, he decided to take the stairs. His steps froze when he recognised a familiar figure crouching down on the stairs, just a few levels down from where KAT-TUN’s dressing room was. As if sensing another’s appearance, the lady got up and looked back.

“Takako …”

Takako’s eyes widened in surprise at the presence of the latter, she quickly brushed away the fallen tears with the back of her palm. Without any words spoken, she headed towards the door, only to be stopped by Jin, who managed to grab her wrist in no time.

“What … are you doing?” Takako was shocked at Jin’s bold actions.

“Can we talk?”

“What is there to talk about … Jin?” Saying out her ex-lover’s given name sounded weird to her ears. They’ve really became strangers within time, have they?

Instead of answering her question, Jin touched her cheeks lightly. “You were crying?”

“That’s none of your business!” Takako snapped, pushing Jin’s hand away. “I was just happy that SPEED’s having a good start. Those were tears of happiness, if you really want to know so much.”

Jin knew she was lying, he could see right through her. Nevertheless he nodded, ignoring that fact.

“If there’s nothing else, I’ll …”

“WAIT!”

Takako was surprised at Jin’s sudden outburst.

“Can we …” Jin clasped his hands nervously, looking up at Takako with hopeful eyes. “Can we at least be friends? I know that’d be hard at first but …”

“No.” Takako said firmly. Seeing the hurt expression Jin wore, she immediately explained the reason why. “If I am your friend, I’d be greedy and I would want more. I don’t want to be selfish. I don’t want to set hopes in my heart when I know whatever I do, things between us wouldn’t be like before. Therefore, we can’t be friends.”

“Takako …”

“I loved you, Jin.” Takako flashed him a gentle smile before proceeding out of the door.

-

Days passed by, time overflowed but Jin still couldn’t let the love for Takako go. No matter what he did, or how many girls he dated, his heart refused to give up on her. This time round, he wanted to make his own decision, one that truly came from his heart.

“I want her back.” Jin confided in his best friend, gulping on his drink.

“Who?” Yamapi asked in confusion.

“Takako.”

“Takako? You mean Uehara Takako of SPEED?” Yamapi murmured an apology when Jin glared at him. “Didn’t you break up with her, like four years ago?”

“I did but it wasn’t my decision. I was forced to.”

“I think all JE idols went through that.” Yamapi sighed, shaking his head. “It’s not easy being an idol.”

“I know that fans are important to us but Pi, if I let Takako again for the second time, I’ll regret it for a lifetime. I’d never forgive myself for inflicting hurt on her and well, myself.”

“You’ve already decided, haven’t you?”

Jin nodded.

“Then why did you ask me to come?” Yamapi blinked.

“I wanted to know if it’s the right decision. Hearing a second opinion doesn’t hurt, right?”

“If the decision comes from the bottom of your heart, it never is wrong, Jin. Maybe it is time for you to think for yourself for once. Idols are also human too, you know? We damn have feelings like all of the fans out there.”

“You’re right.” A smile formed on Jin’s lips.

-

Jin wore a heavy disguise on the way to Takako’s apartment, not wanting to make news on the cover of the newspapers. He learnt from past mistakes, and hell he wouldn’t want to be discovered by paparazzis.

Jin came slightly past midnight, knowing that Takako would be home by then. He took a deep breath before pressing the door bell. In his heart, he was silently hoping that Takako would answer the door.

The door opened seconds later, revealing a shocked Takako.

“What are you doing here?” She whispered, scanning the doorways to see if anyone had been following Jin. Takako heaved a relief sigh when she found no one suspicious.

“I need to talk to you. It’s really important.”

Takako noticed the determined expression on Jin, and sighed. “Come in.” She opened the door wide, giving Jin space to enter. Honestly, Takako was reluctant to let him in but she didn’t have a choice, they couldn’t possibly be talking outside.

Jin made his way to the living room, sitting on the sofa.

“Do you want any drinks?” Takako crossed her arms.

“Whatever you have.”

Takako nodded her head, heading towards the refrigerator. Meanwhile, Jin looked around the apartment, suddenly feeling nostalgic. He hadn’t been here for four long years, he painfully realised.

“Here.”

Takako handed Jin a can of Ice Lemon Tea. She sat beside him out of habit, and when she noticed what she had done, she made a move to get up but was stopped by Jin.

“It’s easier if we sit side by side.”

Takako shrugged, crossing her arms. “So what is it that you wanted to talk to me about?”

“I want us to get back together.”

Takako was taken aback. “What …?” She whispered.

Jin took hold of her hands, “Me and you, back in a relationship. I really mean it.”

“But I don’t understand, why the sudden …”

“I’m tired of living a life of façade. I don’t want to lie to myself, my heart or you anymore. We were forced to part ways because of my management but even that didn’t make this heart stopped beating for you.” Jin placed their intertwined hands to his heart, emphasising his point.

Takako wasn’t convinced though.

“Won’t you be afraid of people discovering that we’ve gotten back together then? One day, you’d still need to make the decision whether to choose your career or me. I fairly well know your decision without me asking you what. I don’t want to feel happy now, only to have my heart crushed once more. I’d rather lead the life the way it is now.”

Jin took out something from his pocket, and showed it to Takako.

“Jin …” She gasped when she realised that it was a diamond ring. “What does this mean?”

“I’d want us to lead a happy life together, supporting each other through thick and thin. I am not a perfect man but I promise that I’d protect you, no matter what. Life wouldn’t be easy, hiding the marriage would be difficult but I want us to go through them together. I’d live a lifetime of regrets if I ever let you go again, Taka. I don’t need anything else but your love. Will you marry me?”

Takako clamped her mouth, feeling so emotional at this moment of time. Once she managed to calm herself, she handed out her right hand to Jin, the action signifying her answer. Jin, who understood, slipped the ring onto Takako’s wedding finger.

Unable to control her emotions, Takako lunged into Jin’s embrace, hugging him tightly. Jin wrapped his arms around her back and pulled her closer to him. The scene looked oddly familiar but this time it’s different. This wasn’t a separation but a reunion between the both of them as happiness for the first time in four years filled their hearts.

Fated, they were fated to be together as one.

Author’s Note: As a fan of Jin and Takako, I’d want them to have a happy beginning even if it’s just in the fiction world. Their story is really sad, and I think Jin really did love her deeply. To let the one you love go is just so … heartbreaking and painful. I don’t understand some fans would object to their idol’s relationship so much. They have feelings too. They’re human.

I hate the type of fans who’d want the idols for themselves or those who seemed delusional. Yes, I am an Akame fan and forever will be one but I don’t see them dating in real life. That’s not possible. I’m content enough that they’re good friends. I hope akame fans that happen to read this fic doesn’t feel offended. I’m just being true to myself.

I am silently hoping that Jin and Takako would get back together in real life but that too doesn’t seem possible. At least I have my fiction world, my fantasy. If there’s any other Jin/Takako fan out there who wants me to write a one-shot on them, please feel free to tell me the plot. I’d be happy to write more fics on them.
