Chapter 5 - Don't Leave
----
“Tsubasa-kun’s body is still weak now so he really needs the glucose drip to keep him strong. Otherwise he would easily collapse without it. Just make sure he does not pull the tube again. There will probably be more danger.”
“Yes, I understand.” He could only nod at the doctor’s advice helplessly, turning his gaze back to the unconscious Tsubasa after the latter had left the room.
“Tsubasa, you have to get well.” Takki whispered softly, brushing his smooth hair delicately.
----
“Where is... Takki?” a restless voice suddenly voiced out, interrupting his thoughts for a moment, those eyes looking at him sadly.
“Ne, Tsubasa-kun, Takizawa-kun just…”
“He left... right? I have... to… get… out...” Tsubasa struggled to lift his body up but found no strength to do so, realizing that every movement he took required a lot of energy from him, draining him out as a result.
“Tsubasa-kun, you have to stop moving! You’re just hurting yourself more! Tsubasa-kun!” Kame placed his arms to his shoulders, putting him back into his lying position.
“Let… go… Please… Please…” Tsubasa cried helplessly as his arms struggled to withstand Kame’s firm hold, preventing him from getting up.
“Tsubasa-kun.”
“That’s alright. Kame, I’ll take over. Thanks.” Takki said, walking closer to his junior, patting his shoulder with gratitude.
“No problem. I’ll go home now. See you.” Kame bowed in respect as he made his way out of the hospital room, calling his lover to pick him up.
----
“Takki…”
Takki immediately was by his side, sitting on the near edge of the bed as he placed an arm above Tsubasa’s head.
“I’m not going to leave you so don’t worry. I’ll take care of you.” He said, giving him a tender look that he had never shown before, that look of love and protection for his loved one.
“Really?” Tsubasa looked at him in wonder, expecting Takki to push him away like he always did.
“Yes, I meant what I say. So you will be given good care, Tsubasa. Don’t talk anymore alright? You need all the rest to get well.”
“Then promise me you won’t ever leave me?” Tsubasa said weakly, he couldn’t talk much since his body is drain out, starting to feel dizzy yet once again.
That sentence was enough to make Takki stay in silence for a while, pondering on the special request his partner made. A promise, can I ever keep it?
Not wanting to worry Tsubasa, he finally gave out a nod, reassuring him with a smile, “Yes, I promise. Don’t worry. Go back to sleep.”
Am I going to leave you, Tsubasa? I’m not going to do that again. I’ve hurt you too much. You deserve all the care and concern. I’ll do all I can to keep my feelings from you even if it hurts. I will not destroy our friendship. If being just your friend allows me to be near you, having you as my support, then I’m prepared for it.
I fear that I will lose you, having you fall in love with someone else and not me. Will you leave me then? All I know is I’m not going to continue with my life if that ever happens. Life without you is just meaningless. What is the point of living when I’m dead inside? I am just going to appreciate the present while it last. Until then, Tsubasa. I will say my goodbye.
----
Tsubasa stood in a sitting position, smiling brightly remembering that sweet memory he had, his eyes kept scanning the doorway, too eager for the arrival of Takki. He knew Takki would come since he had promised, in fact he had been visiting every day after work, just to see his progress.
“With you taking care of me, for sure I could recover faster.” He thought, the cheerful smile not once left his face.
“Why are you smiling like an idiot, Tsubasa? Is there something that you want to tell that made you so happy?”
He immediately recognized that voice, his smile grew bigger as he looked at the figure entering the room, his right hand holding a banquet of flowers, placing them on the nearby table top. Noticing the appearance of the flowers made him feel sad, it seems that Takki is congratulating him on the success of his recovery since he was allowed to be discharged today.
Today is the day. How could I ever forget that? Will things go back like before, Takki and me being pure strangers to one another? How I wish I could stay in the hospital longer, that way he would have to take care of me and stay by my side. At least I have a reason to make him stay.
His smile was gone, only sadness flashed out at this moment of time. Tsubasa didn’t want to look pathetic in front of Takki but he just couldn’t hide his feelings no more. He needed Takki to survive, to stand strong in this cruel entertainment business, of which without him, he would tend to fall and break down.
“Tsubasa, what’s wrong? Are you alright?” Takki asked worriedly when he noticed the quick change in his expression, one moment he was feeling happy and the next, sadness engulfing his whole mind, his sad expression clearly written on his face.
Tsubasa could not stand holding on to a hope that will forever not become a reality though how much he wanted it to be true. He was too involved in the fear of losing his best friend yet once again that he didn’t care of what would be the outcome of it. Tsubasa didn’t want to keep his feelings bottled up in his precious heart, he had enough of all the hurting he had gone through.
“Takki.” He whispered as he slipped out of the bed, still in his hospital clothes, coming closer to his partner, embracing him in a tight protective hug, stunning the latter into total silence, totally not expecting this at all.
“Tsubasa.” His heart beats faster, feeling nervous at having Tsubasa so close to him, this was what he had always wanted, but soon he found himself returning the hug, his hand touching Tsubasa’s back.
Tsubasa is just feeling sad, Takizawa! Don’t expect more than what it would be. He just needed a friend, I’m only a friend to him. He doesn’t love me. He doesn’t...
“I love you, Takki. So please, take care of me forever?” Tsubasa finally voiced out after a moment of silence, both too preoccupied in the warm embrace.
“Of course I will take care of you… Eh!!! What did you just say? Is that for real?!!” Takki asked in disbelief, thinking that he had heard wrongly, it’s impossible for Tsubasa to feel the same way, but he was so sure that he had heard those 3 words he had longed to hear from him, it just feels too good to be true, coming from Tsubasa himself.
“Even if you don’t love me, please don’t leave me, Takki. Please, I’m begging you. I need you. Please.” Tsubasa said in between his sobs, his hands clinging to Takki’s shirt desperately, looking at him in the eye, hoping that at least he could have a friend in him.
“Tsubasa, how could I not love you? I loved you so much that it hurts. And now that you told me that you too feel the same way, never am I going to leave you. Because I love you too, Tsubasa.” He said, looking at the tear eyed Tsubasa full of love, wiping the tears away.
“I love you.” Takki confessed again as he felt Tsubasa’s weight onto him, the older boy hugging him tightly, crying yet again, but this time, he cried tears of happiness.
