What did I do to make Takki change so much? It’s as if he is now a complete different person. Our friendship is so strained such that we stopped talking to one another, let alone see each other. Even if we do, it’s not on friendly terms anymore. Everything is so business-like, so formal. And I’ve never felt so uncomfortable being around him.

“Takki, are we not friends anymore? We seem so distance, so far away from each other. Why can’t we be like before? Where we used to enjoy each other’s company a lot? ” Tsubasa yearned so much to ask him that but decides against doing so. He fears that they will fall further apart.

At least when he kept his silence, Takki wouldn’t know how he truly felt deep inside. Perhaps the best friend Tsubasa had in him was gone and the person he is starting to be is just another stranger. Furthermore, he didn’t want their friendship to suffer any longer.

“Takki, don’t you remember the fun that we had in the past? Sharing happiness and sadness together. Didn’t you promise that you’d always be by my side? You’ve broken your word. To you, that’s all in the past.”

Is this fate? Something you definitely have no control of? People say that friendship never last for a lifetime. Is that true? All I know now is that my friendship with Takki is falling apart, and we’re no longer the best friends we once were. Now Takki and Tsubasa are strangers, only putting on a mask for the sake of the fans.

Leaning against his bedroom wall, Tsubasa sighed in sadness, “Seems that you no longer need me anymore, Takizawa.”

---

Takki packed his bag, ready to make his way out of the shooting scene. Yes, he did change. But no one knew the reason, and he rather not let anyone find out. Takizawa is now more reserved and cautious whenever he speaks in public. He had changed.

Putting on a perfect yet natural smile, he waved at the casting crews, “I’m going now!”

Once in his car, he hears that familiar ring tone and searches for that one source in his bag. But it took him so long that the sound slowly begins to disappear.

“Damn.” Takki cursed silently, frustrated in not able to get that call on time.

But what was written on his mobile screen stunned him. 10 missed calls, 5 messages was displayed. All these were from Tsubasa.

Was he that desperate to contact me? Doesn’t he understand the hints that I’ve been giving him lately? He should know by now that I want out of our friendship. I can no longer pretend, but I’m good in acting to pretend. Things can never be the same.

Without hesitation, Takki pressed the button ‘Delete’ thus deleting all the messages he had. Gomen.

He doesn’t know how much longer he can hold on but as long as he has the strength, he will still go on. Even if he has to fall in this battle, he will never break down and quit. Being strong is his job.

“Tsubasa, I’m sorry.” Takki whispered ever so softly, tears threatening to fall any moment, but he forced them not to.

--

Tsubasa threw his phone dropping it to the floor with a thud. Anger penetrated his mind, body and soul. Here he was, trying his best to salvage their nearly torn friendship, but Takki remained as defiant as ever by never returning his calls or messages. Why do I even bother? Why do I even care?

Who doe he think he is anyway? That he can control my emotions? That I am weak without him? Although I can’t imagine life without him by my side, I will not fall and admit defeat that easily. It’s different this time round. I am definitely not going to show him my weakness. Not now, not ever. Tsubasa Imai will not be defeated.

“You’re asking for it, Takizawa. I’m definitely not going to let you hurt me anymore. I’ve had more than enough.”

Tsubasa had this newly born energy that he himself never knew it existed. The need to fight back was so strong and he was determined to not lose defeat

Takki is obviously avoiding him for some reason. And only god knows when he wants to keep on doing that.

I can live my own life even without him in it. I can still survive.

~

Tsubasa will never forget that last meeting with Takki. Though they’re working on the same project, they were never together. It was all professionalism in front of the camera but when it’s off screen, they went back to their individual activities, not bothering to hang out with one another.

It was not my fault. Takki was obviously avoiding me, trying hard not to look at me in the eye. Since when did looking straight at my face becomes a difficult thing to you?

Takki stopped showing his genuine smile, the one special smile reserved for Tsubasa. He did try to talk to him but received a cold stare instead.

“Hey, Hide-kun! How have you been doing? I’ve not seen you for some time now.” Tsubasa smiled, trying to get friendly though he really felt uncomfortable for the countless time being so near his partner

But Takki moved away when he noticed that Tsubasa is coming closer. He made sure that they are a distance away before finally replying, “Sorry, I have to go now.”

Without even replying to his question, Takki fled the scene leaving him utterly stunned for a moment. And hurt.

Tsubasa had never felt so much hurt at that point of time. You didn’t even bother replying to my question. You no longer care.

“Sorry, I have to go now.”

~

Those words were short but it hurts a lot. They also brought a realization to him. That Takki was indeed avoiding him, taking the opportunity to run further away from him. Their so-called friendship doesn’t mean a thing to him. He no longer cares.

I’m not his friend anymore. He forgets me. He doesn’t need me anymore. Not any longer and that hurts.

Although a minute ago, Tsubasa claimed that he could not be defeated but in reality he already did. He was defeated in the torn friendship. Though how strong his appearance may be, he is breaking deep inside.

And for the first time after weeks of suppressing his hurt feelings, Tsubasa Imai cried. Crying over the pain of losing Takki as his best friend, and that he was no longer important to him.

He no longer cares.
