Carding scraggly, dirty messes?

Howdy! Now that I've been spinning a while, my lint bag has been filled several times and emptied into a catch-all bag, just waiting for a project. I'd like to untwist, re-card and re-spin that messy stuff into real yarn, but I'm not sure the effort would be worth it ( Read more... )

A carding machine will not magically turn nasty stuff into spinnable stuff. Personally I would never put matted dirty fiber through my carder.
You could try hand picking, gently pulling it all apart to separate mats and get out as much VM as possible.
More VM and dirt will fall out as you spin then you can wash it to get the last of the dirt out. It will never produce quality yarn. It might be worth the time for the learning experience of dealing with less then pristine fiber. Good luck

I've been keeping mine, and I'm offering it for the creatures, but I haven't heard back yet as to whether or not it is wanted, as the studio just got moved into this weekend. I can let you know what I hear, if you like.

Keen! I haven't heard from or seen J in a while and it would be nice to bring a gift when I do... if indeed it is a wanted gift. She took some before, but obviously it's a renewable resource. :D

Haven't seen you in a while either! I'd like to alter that. :)

It would be good to see you again, given your current, ahem, project in the works :)
