YenSid can TL;DR with the best of them

Several days ago a songbird asked me several excellent questions on the nature of magic. Regretfully a challenge from a certain student of mine drew my attention before I could provide a satisfactory answer. It is my hope to correct my earlier rudeness and to perhaps give some insight into the nature of the Arcane and the Unseen Sides of the ( Read more... )

You have answered my question sufficiently enough. I have only one comment for now.

As you describe it, magic is the ability to manipulate and change the world around oneself. I once read a book series in which an especially powerful mage had created an entire sentient species using magic.
In this way, it would seem that magic is the same as the ability one would have in the Dreaming. So, is it true that this "World of Light" was, in essence, a Dreaming?

From what little remains of the World of Light, it would seem to resemble your "Dreaming."

However, if this is true, then it likely fell due to the simple fact that a dream to one is a nightmare to another.

Still, it would seem no one at this time can say definitively what the World of Light was, save for perhaps the Keyblade itself.

Indeed. However, be warned that that one and I have very different views of magic. Even I cannot predict what the Cat will do.

If magic inherently changes a person, then what sort of changes are typical, or expected?

That cannot be predicted, for the change is a reflection of what the magic is used for, how it is used, and why. They may also be spiritual as well as physical.

Those who rely upon magic to fulfill all their desires often find themselves reflecting those desires. Sometimes, they do not like what they become. Those who use magic as but one of many skills are able to largely avoid radical changes, although magic leaves its mark even on them, in some minor form, such as eye color, sensitivity to certain emotions, or even changes in food preferences.

Not all changes are bad, but that, like everything, depends upon the view of the Arcanist.
