Daniel had kicked himself out of the house before Anna could, earlier in the day. He spent some time at the shelter, and roaming the streets, before parking himself a few blocks down from the Wasteland. Hey, thirty degrees is practically balmy in comparison.

The horse is at home. She was grouchy.

Preston raises his eyebrows.

"Where's the ride?"

"We're not connected at the hip," Daniel says, pushing his hat back up so he can see Preston. "Every relationship needs some time apart. Absence," he says in a solemn tone, "makes the heart grow fonder."

"You'd better be planning on bringing back flowers if you're going to be spouting that, is all I can say," Preston says, straight-faced.

"Or - apples? Grass?"

[cheng_hu]

"I'm sure she'd appreciate flowers, at least until she ate them. Maybe I'll go looking for a florist later. Need any corsages, man?"

Actually, it's not a bad idea. A florist would have fertilizer and pots and maybe even lights for indoor growing...

Journey waves an enthusiastic hello from across the street (she's walking away from the Wasteland).

...he's seen her around, but they haven't been officially introduced. Daniel isn't sure what to do faced with that amount of enthusiasm.

So he waves back.

"Hey there!" she calls, crossing the street. "Enjoying the weather?"

"It's better than ice," he allows. "The sun's a little low to be very warm, though."

He's discussing the weather. Small talk actually seems strange at this point.
