Now, see, the good thing about spring is that the roads are starting to clear. Which means that motorbikes are useable. Which means that Armand has been having way too much fun going too fast around corners because it's the closest he can get to running as a wolf

Preston's sitting at a table, with a cup of ambiguous Wasteland alcohol in front of him.

He looks . . . a little stunned, to be honest.

(Did he seriously just talk Russ and Claire into thinking about a criminal justice system? Like, seriously, did that just actually happen?)

Preston looks a little wry. "Yeah, me neither - just starting to get caught up the past couple days. Did you know, by the way, that Russ is collecting a menagerie of vamp kids to use as living chewtoys? And Claire's started making herself a snazzy fur muff out of wolf-tails?"

He resists the urge to facepalm.

Just.

"Jesus."

[bass_line_blues]

"Whoever it is that's pulling this shit, they're doing a fucking good job," Preston says, and takes another gulp.

"Very creative."

[localhandywolf]

"In a rather psychopathic kind of way."

[bass_line_blues]

"Goes without saying."

Preston leans back. "Otherwise - doesn't seem to be much of a reason why. I mean, I'd say they're trying to create a power vacuum, but we were so divided to start with that you could pretty much saunter through the holes and start your own whatever, so . . ."

"Just fucking chaos and laugh as the blood runs down the streets."

[bass_line_blues]

A flicker of real anger shows through; brief, and quickly suppressed.

"You'd think we'd all'v'had fucking enough of that."

Flatly,

"You'd think."

Preston is silent for a moment.

Eventually: "Has the Pack -

"Man, I don't know how to ask this. But I kinda need to know what's really going down, you know? What the attitudes are."

Armand absently taps out a tune on the table.

"Pissed," he says at last. "Pissed, with only faceless people to be pissed out. Freaked, because we don't know what's going on. Everyone is...pretty much somewhere between Russ's ranting and Journey's clinging, if that makes sense."

[bass_line_blues]

"- perfect sense," says Preston, after a beat, a little wryly.

(He knows the Journeycling pretty well.)

"About the facelessness . . . well, for a start, here's hoping it won't be for that much longer, but.

"I'd guess a couple of people've been tempted to try to stick some familiar face or other on there. I'd be happy to hear I'm wrong."

Softly,

"What do you know?"

[bass_line_blues]

Preston shakes his head.

"Like I said. It's all rumors."

[localhandywolf]

"Still. I've been out of it."

[bass_line_blues]

"You heard some of the wilder ones."

Preston shrugs. "Couple people've that I've seen've come back to the shelter pretty roughed up. Vamps, wolves; it's all very West Side Story."
