Daniel appears from a back room, arms full of first aid supplies. Mostly glorified bedsheets and rubbing alcohol, but you take what you can get.

Daniel is amused, but interested in a conversation that changes from discussing a woman's...features to Caesar.

"She's sǐ sānbā. But I agree, and that's just from talking to her once. She's smart, charismatic, a good leader."

He shrugs. "Dangerous, too. Not to mention I can see where she's coming from, even if I don't agree."

"I've talked to her a couple times - I respect her a lot, I won't lie," Preston says, frankly.

"Not a lot of people could've done what she did. And if we were all vamps, or all wolves, or all humans, she might even be just what we needed. She's good at unifying.

"But the way she does it - bound to divide."

"And even if we were all one..." Species is the wrong word.

"Even if we were all the same, she'd be bad news for anyone who wasn't part of the group. Which really isn't the best way to rebuild a society. Look after you and yours first, sure. But not to the exclusion of everyone else. Which is apparently what those Friends of the Right were after."

"Back to Ancient Rome," Preston points out. "Way they do it, you start out with one group, yeah - then let everyone else in. Hopefully not by conquering, which they did, but they were champion fucking assimilators."

Beat; then, dryly, "Friends of the Right weren't trying to build a society. They were trying to eliminate a mutant menace."

"And you didn't whip out your adamantium claws and save the day? For shame."

Preston snorts.

"Is this gonna become a running joke of some kind?"

It is, he has to admit, better than 'Poochie'.

"I'll think it's funny until everyone starts wearing spandex. Wouldn't be too bad if comics were a bit closer to reality. Radiation didn't do much for me."

Unless you count a chemical peel that left him minus a feel layers of skin.

"I gotta confess, I only saw the movies," Preston admits.

The radiation poisoning isn't news to him; you get a nose for that kind of thing, after two post-apocalyptic years.

No pun intended.

"But wasn't it - uh - the Hulk that got radiated? And he didn't have it so hot. For the cool stuff you need radioactive spiders or something."

Preston is totally calling Daniel 'Hulk' now, at some future point. For the record.

One corner of his mouth quirks up. "Cosmic rays? I probably stepped on a lot of radioactive spiders. Does that count?"

"Killing the chances of a lot of potential superheroes in the making, man," Preston says, shaking his head sadly.
