nothing in life is set in stone

Jon wasn't proud of it, but he was most certainly hiding. Mostly from Robb, though he wasn't too keen on Arya or his father discovering him this way either. Though they, at least, would have only a brief memory of Jeyne Westerling Stark to recall, so it would be only the embarrassment of being a girl (and dressed in one of Susan's outfits to boot) ( Read more... )

Why, hello. Grey Wind, following a familiar (if slightly strange, today) scent, comes upon Jon's oh-so-clever hiding place and sniffs at him curiously. Something is definitely strange, but this is Jon and this is Ghost, and he means to say hello.

Ghost was quick to meet Grey Wind's nose with his own, bounding up to nudge his brother gently toward the sea. "No, Ghost, it's alright," Jon said resignedly, threading a hand through each of their fur. "If we're caught, we're caught. But if you can head him off before he finds me," he said to Grey Wind, bringing the big wolf's face close to his own, "that might be better off for both of us."

Grey Wind cannot imagine why it would be better for Robb not to find Jon, even if he looks a little different. (This is what you get when you navigate your life by smell.) He drags a sandpaper tongue affectionately over Jon's face, and trots off with his tail wagging, only to return a minute later with a very pleased expression.

And Robb's voice, though he's not quite caught up--"What is it that you're on about now?"

Jon heard the voice and felt the pit of his stomach turn over. "Damn," he swore, his fingers tightening in Ghost's fur till the direwolf had had enough, and lightly closed his teeth over Jon's hand till he pulled it away. "Robb, wait," Jon said, shooing Ghost out into his brother's path and holding up a hand in the hopes it would stop him before he came around the rock.

It wasn't until Pam spotted a white blur of fluffy fur and four legs bounding after a stick that she realized just how far she'd walked. She probably shouldn't have even walked this far, but she'd just been itching to get away for a little while. Of course, now that she'd realized just how far she'd walked, she felt exhausted.

Glancing around, she caught sight of Ghost again and called his name. If he was around, Jon was surely near by and she hadn't seen him in a while.

[told you I'd tag. ;)]

A faint female voice calling Ghost's name was all Jon heard; assuming it was Susan, he got to his feet and brushed off the seat of his trousers, coming around the rock only to realize it was, in fact, not Susan. "Oh," he said, surprised. "Well." Sheepishly smiling, he went to meet Pam halfway, shading his eyes with a hand. "Hello," he said ruefully. "I don't suppose you recognize me."

Pam blinked owlishly, staring at the girl that had just stood up from behind a rock. She looked over at Ghost, then back at the girl, then at Ghost again, then- "Jon?"

"Unfortunately," he admitted, holding out his hands to the sides a bit so Pam could see what he'd turned into. "I woke up this way yesterday. I was... uh, well, I was hiding, until it passed. I look like Robb's wife," he added by way of explanation. "And I'd not hurt him that way if I could avoid it."
