Reading roundup

(Keeping these numbered from now on, to help with the end-of-year roll-up, which I'm planning on doing again. For the same reason, I'll be keeping track even of the "guilty pleasure" books, which I normally wouldn't write about.)

First the guilty pleasure ones:

1.) Cameron Dokey, How Not to Spend Your Senior Year -- silly YA romantic... thing. ( mini-review with spoilers )

a: mercedes lackey, ya, a: jonathan kellerman, a: daria dontsova, a: tess gerritsen, russian, lackey, a: sergei lukyanenko, a: cameron dokey, a: jim butcher, reading, dresden files

I haven't read the Dozor books. I try to stay away from fantasy if it takes itself seriously. But I do feel up to seeing to the movie.

Spike died?? :((( bednyj pesik. As far as Kellerman OTP - come on, Alex/Milo all the way. Rick is always at work, Alex is always lonely and can't connect with his broads... okay, maybe they're more of a spiritual OTP than any other, but still.

I never actually did figure out whether "Dozor" takes itself seriously or not. I guess it tries to be more "real" than Ponedeljnik, but beyond that, I dunno... can't get a fix on it. The movie is supposed to be pretty faithful to the book (though I noticed some inconsistencies just perusing the movie site), so when you do see it, I shall be most curious!

You're a Kellerman fan, too? Cool! Spike hasn't died yet, but Robin said he's not doing well, so... unless that's just a plot device to get Alex and Robin back together, that's probably coming in the next book or so :((( ...

Alex/Milo goes without saying :), but among the "broad" relationships I definitely prefer Robin to any of the "detours" we've seen.

Yeah, Alex's "detours" all leave a sour taste behind. Seriously, Alex is *way* too Suey. That's why Milo is a good partner for him. He's pretty much in charge of things if they're out investigating, and Alex needs to be taken down a notch on regular basis.

I think he's actually gotten less Suey in the latest books, no? I mean, he no longer tends to go in to take down the bad guys on his own, or, rather, doesn't end up in situations which unfold that way. But definitely agree with you -- he functions best when Milo's on hand to restrain his more amateurish (and thus Suish) impulses.
