I like some AUs better than others. Sometimes it also depends on the characters involved.
Fusions can be fun. I also love fantasy AUs for non-fantasy genres, since I occasionally enjoy fantasy. I've actually written two fantasy AUs. No real fusion, although there were Scooby vibes. I also tried writing a fic based on the Buffy episode "Hush", but I couldn't do it justice. I may try again next Halloween and get a Buffy fan to look over it.
I know there used to be a lot of Buffy/Harry Potter AUs! I wasn't into Buffy at the time so I never read them, but I should seek them out. That would be fun. I kind of want to see Harry and Buffy vent to each other.
I love the idea of a Firefly fusion! Sadly I don't know the other fandom.
It's funny, because I definitely read fantasy more than sci-fi when it comes to books, but tend to prefer sci-fi AUs to fantasy ones (though I can like both). I think it might be that I'm pickier about my fantasy at this point because I've read more of it? Or maybe I just find the sci-fi tropes more fungible...

I can see how that would be really hard -- for me personally, anyway, dialogue comes far easier that anything else, and describing action in a way that conveys the meaning is the thing I always waffle the most about, so trying to write "Hush"-style communication -- unless everyone was writing on whiteboards, and probably even then -- would be so tricky! But I wish you luck with this challenge

Thanks for the link to my old Firefly fic! It's genuinely one of my favorite examples of daemon AU done right because not only does it do a really great job with what's the primary attraction of this fusion to me -- picking daemons and names for everyone -- but it actually uses daemons in a really cool way that expands daemon canon and comments interestingly on the actual canon of the fic (with River's daemon

Oh I love love LOVE the idea of Morrolan centered University AU! (Frankly, I'm simply extatic to find a person who fangirls about Morrolan as much as I do:) ). I unfortunately cannot access what you've written, but I believe Morrolan, had he not been a dragon prince, would have been a student: he's a huuuuge nerd - and we love him for that - AND he loves to party.
I have a headcanon that, since the Dragaera University we saw in TPG disappeared with Dragaera City, Zerika asked Morrolan to found the new one, in Adrilankha. Makes sense bc 1) he has the time and money 2) he's all "Weee! Magic!" 3) I guess she'd rather have him practice sorcery under supervision cuz we remember what happened last time an e'Kieron studied magic in his corner by himself. So I like to think he has himself a University kinda akin to Terry Pratchett's Unseen University in terms of crazy shenanigans and none of this was mentionned in the series bc it wasn't relevant to Vlad's story.
oh my goodness, HI! I'm thrilled to meet another Dragaera fan -- a rare breed! -- and especially someone whose fannishness is Morrolan centric, because I'm a little bit obsessed with him, lol (and also a Pratchett fan! excellent! :D)
I've unlocked the post the link was going to, so you should be able to read it now. (The link is to a Dreamwidth post, but I'm pretty sure you can comment there with OpenID if you want to.)
What I have over at that link is more along the lines of a mundane university AU, but I would totally love to see what you describe as well, an in-universe university. There's some evidence from the Paarfi books that universities exist, isn't there? (e.g. intro written by the Dean of Pamlar University, and probably there are others). I guess it's not clear whether sorcery is studied in universities or not -- most of it seems to be done by gentleperson scholars in their lairs, at least as far as we've seen via Vlad -- but it would make sense for magical academia to exist in universe, I feel like.

You make me really want to read Temeraire. Wish there was a way to fit all the books into my life.
