So, I wrote three things this Yuletide, which is a first for me (it's been strictly one fic the past two years), and I've been inordinately pleased with the results.
First just the links, then a lot of nattering under the cut:

A Pea-culiar Affair -- Hamster Princess, 3.5k, gen, Harriet and Mumfrey, set during book 1, with "The Princess and hte Pea

Ha - Cyteen was 1040pp in the ebook format I got. Your hardback copy makes it seem smaller! I am very glad I did the sync read with 1 chapter a week - that certainly made it more manageable and it was the only think I had the brain to read in March/April.
I did end up liking Peace Talks/Battle Ground by treating it as one book. It certainly reset the series into something else, just like Changes did. I think I can see where the series wants to go now with barely any regular humans left really. (But if you are quitting, this is also feels as a natural drop point)

Whoa! But not surprising -- even in hardcover it was a massive, massive brick!
I don't think I'm quitting the Dresden Files yet -- I'm too invested in a lot of these characters. I imagine I'll finish Battle Ground at some point this year, or at worst, when Thomas comes back into the action, which I hope will happen at some point.
I do suspect that I'll enjoy the middle books, when Harry's circle of friends/allies/frenemies is growing and his relationships to them are deepening, more than the build-up to the apocalyptic trilogy or whatever we're headed for now. But we'll see!

It was! (and simultaneously gave me such stressful work vibes, which a lot of other commenters also pointed out, LOL) Anyway, happy to have been able to share and glad you enjoyed!
Oooh, yay, I'm glad you read Among Others and also liked it!
Some of books mentioned were ones I'd read, but most weren't, but I think the way the main character related to them felt familiar.
Yeah, same for me. I could still feel the longing and the love for them even when I hadn't read them, and in those cases where I had read them, or something else by the authors, there was an added appreciation -- but it wasn't necessary.
and I kept wondering what significance it was going to have, so it was kind of strange that it... wasn't really significant, I guess.
Yeah, that was odd, but I guess... ultimately it doesn't matter which one Mori is, it matters that she's the one left, I guess?
And I really liked the way the fairies were written, sort of alien and unknowable but also part of the natural ( ... )

I know, totally... The last email where the advisor is providing a snake after all was just the perfect ending. XD

Yeah, that's the only conclusion I can come to as well. Maybe it has something to do with her struggling to find her singular identity without her sister.

Haha, yes, that was what took it from a story I enjoyed to "must share with everyone immediately!" :D

Yeah, that would make sense / feel fitting to me.

I think I went for "I like sugary sweet drinks as much as the next millennial but I usually get a small one and that one was like...double-venti" but we thought along similar lines there XD
And I am also soooo excited for a derwish-Swordheart sequel.

I assume we're getting the Dervish book last, so I guess it's going to be a bit of a wait, but I'm really looking forward to it! I was so happy to read in the author's note at the end that it *was* going to be a trilogy and not a standalone, like I'd been assuming all along.
