OK, so, the "reread" bit is easy -- HP1 is actually the only one of the three books I like as an individual book, though I do like all three series. So, reread HP (as I mentioned in another comment, that's one of the few series I do in fact occasionally reread, at least in parts.)
The burn (/hide deep in the bowels of the library, as bearshorty suggested) vs rewrite is harder... I think, ultimately, not all that much is lot by burning/skipping Fool Moon -- sure stuff happens that has implications down the line, and the werewolf characters are introduced and stuff, but it's easy enough to just catch up on all that from later books. Thus hide/burn Fool Moon -- the Dresden books get a lot stronger a couple books further down the line, I think is the fairly common opinion ( ... )

Yes, that sounds weird indeed! I don't think I've ever done that? I've read some book that are originally in English in German when I was younger and then read them in English years later, but that's not the same. I don't think I've ever read German books I know really well in a translated version later. (But doing that in order to determine whether it's worth reccing them is a good reason!)
Yay yuletide! \o/ Guardian fandom is a bit sad that Guardian has now grown too big for yuletide, but funnily, cdrama has this weird thing about writing crossovers between other roles of the same actors, so now people are nominating their lesser-known works instead. I am looking forward to what's going to come of that. (We are still working on getting that "other roles" thing accepted as a fandom tag on ao3, because it is one. But the ao3 tag wranglers don't see it that way and keep lumping it all in with RPF, which it's decidedly not. Ah, well. The battle is

Yeah, I've done a fair bit of this with children's books and YA -- A.A.Milne, Lewis Carroll, and other British children's classics like this were translated into Russian extensively (and really well, to the point that in some cases I prefer the Russian translation to the original. My first introduction to Jack London, O.Henry, Mark Twain was all in Russian, too, and it was only later that I read the same things in English, ditto for sci-fi classics like Asimov. I even read the first two books of LotR in Russian, before having to switch to the original since I didn't have book 3 on hand and had to go to the library.
But there's very rarely a reason to do it the other way around :P
