Side note: I was amused to see that Knives Out was the "last film watched in theater" on the Covid lasts meme for, like, 80% of my flist :) Well, now I've seen it, too. So, ( Knives Out (with MAJOR SPOILERS!) )
LOL at all of us watching "Knives Out." (It actually wasn't even my last one, but I did see it very recently.) And so glad you loved it too. :) Completely agree with your review too, though not bothered by barfing, for some reason. Heh.
And I almost never rewatch movies, but once this shows up on streaming, I probably will rewatch it, to watch everything unfold, now that I know what's going on.
Great choices by the way! I agree with you when it comes to Ron and Gimli - both were badly underappreciated and didn't get the recognition they deserve. Like, Ron is not that stupid nor ignorant as the movies make him look like.
I feel like, in the case of Ron and Gimli, the movies are in a large degree to blame for fandom underappreciation. And with Ron that bothers me enough that I like the movie HP adaptations as a thing less because of that.
en Files book? Ooh, want that!
TWO new Dresden Files books! :D (it's about time! :P)
Boohoo ... I'd have been happier if Butcher had written the 2nd book in "The Aeronaut's Windlass". Guess I'm the only one who thinks so. ;-)
Re Knives out ... we figured out pretty soon that the content of the bottles had been swapped as well. Other than that it felt like a typical Agatha Christie film to me. Yep, funny that it was the last film so many of us had seen at the cinema ...
He still hasn't written the Windlass sequel? Huh, that's been a while, too! (I've yet to read the first one, so I haven't been paying much attention)
Knives Out did feel like an Agatha Christie story, in a good way. That's what I was expecting (and why I hoped B would enjoy it), so I was glad to be correct about that.
We did! Or, rather, B and the rodents read it and laughed, and I smiled once I googled it up and could actually read what it said :P (I did remember it popping up in an early scene -- I can't remember if Harlan is drinking from it, or if it's standing around somewhere, but it was a nice way to close the movie.)
I really need to watch Knives out in the original one day. I only got to see the dub which obviously had no accent shenanigans. (I did watch the original trailer and wasn't that bothered but I can imagine that it might be grating on the long run)
Agree on all your Grace and Frankie points, especially about Allison. But it was nice that she and Coyote could be 'Look Bud we both love you and don't hate each other but we'll never be friends' which is something characters (especially in comedy) are rarely allowed to do I feel.
my favorite Robert moments involved him going funeral suit (for his mother) shopping with Grace, and finally managing to give her a spontaneous present. I'm glad that they've gotten to a place where they can actually be friends. That was one of my favourite episodes because it managed a great balance of serious and funny e.g. when they were asking the other customer to try on the dress and kept coming up with new euphemisms for dead (instead of just having a full-on sad and serious scene which would have felt weird

Yeah, that was my favorite Allison scene. The "parents telling their kid about divorce" framing was nicely funny, but I appreciated that they went there and weren't going to be trying to make everyone love Allison.

Agreed! And the funny was also believable for Robert and Grace as people-- they are not big on emotion, so it makes sense that Robert's complicated feelings of loss and Grace's complicated sympathy would manifest in an odd way like that.
We do usually reserve funny accents for animated movies (I remember one where all dachshounds were Very Bavarian). It also would be a bit weird (on the other hand it's also always a bit weird when a character says something like "Nobody over there would understand my accent" and it's dubbed into the same impeccable standard German as all other characters on the show XD)
