(I added it to me to-try list after reading Jo Walton's post/essay/chapter about it in the Hugo History book, but couldn't remember if it had won the Hugo or just been nominated, so, glad it fits with your goals :D)
Oh, you're reading Cherry? J has all the books. I once asked him to give me one in particular that featured in a filk song, and he gave me one instead that was maybe five books before that in chronological order. I gave up before I even got started *lol*
If I can locate the one, I may join you. A chapter a week sounds doable. If I have to ask him though I will likely be bombarded with TMI on what to read first to understand the universe and yada yada ;-)

LOL! I started this one, and there is a lot of backstory that I'm catching up on, definitely, and it's pretty dense. But over on DW we have a couple of people (one reading along) who've read the book before and can shepherd us along, which is proving very valuable!
So, ha, yes, if you can pry just this one book instead of a lecture out of J, please join in! :D (and let me know if you're OK doing so over on DW w/ OpenID or want me to put in the chapter-by-chapter posts here on LJ as well. (I'm happy to comment in 2 places, but most of the discussion is shaping up to be on DW.)
I don't have a DW account any more, and having started the first chapter, I doubt I'll be following that well. *sigh* I'll see if I can make it and open a new account on DW for that purpose only. No promises though.
All right! :D It's turning into quite a Cherryh-reading party :D (I've also never read anything by her other than, like, a short story in an anthology or something), and have been meaning to for ages.
Hmm, for sync reads that aren't on my own journal, I track comments on the post (which can get kind of busy, but at least keeps me remembering the thing is there :) Assuming you have DW set to email you comments, of course.

It'd be lovely if you could cross-post the weekly chapter posts so I know when and where to look on DW.

I can follow along on DW but may need reminders to go look - as I mostly *read* on LJ and *post* on DW :D
