Registering my curiosity about the book too! "magic as science" aspect is not what sold it to me, but rather the gender ratio stemming from natural affinity with magic, and the (cough) well-researched war lingo & related worldbuilding. you can get a girl out of mgimo but not mgimo out of a girl lalala Ну что поделать if Clausewitz was all sold out at geo bookshops :P A girl has needs!

Maybe Eve can hook you up with another ARC? :)

I'll be curious to see what you think of it, definitely! The gender ratio and corps full of women (even though they're noncombatants) made me think of Monstrous Regiment (sans socks, obviously) a few times -- let's just say there are some strong personalities that would get along fine with Jackrum.

In the interests of full disclosure, other than prologue and bits of military history in epigraphs and some reminiscences, there isn't actually any war action in this book, like, onscreen -- presumably that comes in the sequel. But it definitely forms the background to most everything going on, and to my totally layman perception, was well done?

So hopefully would help with your Sun Tzu withdrawal :P
