I'm not sure why I missed this, since I should have been around in October. I do vaguely remember seeing you had done comics, but forgot everything on your list, which is dumb of me since three of the four were on my list too! Agreed on all you say about the characters in Saga, the art in Sandman, and the plot in Watchmen. A couple of your honorable mentions are wins for me, too. Pride of Baghdad hit me pretty hard.

Yeah, it's... I wasn't expecting a "rocks fall, everyone dies" level of tragedy from a pretty comic book about lions. Clearly, in retrospect, I should have known better. But it was a sucker punch at the time.
And I'm resigned to not liking Morpheus being an unpopular opinion! Everybody else seems to like him quite a lot more than I do, including the person who got me to read Sandman in the first place.
I think what the author said about Pride of Baghdad is that you can choose the level of meaning you take from it -- it could just be a story about family, could be about survival, and then there's the entire political metaphor, etc. But there's no reading that makes the deaths any easier to bear.
Let me note that I was not only a teenager when I first read Sandman, but also a goth wannabe. That's like the chocolate and peanut butter for putting up with Dream's whiny moping.
