Haha, my mom was always so good at listening to me talk about things too when I was a kid. I say that in past tense, but actually I recently found myself telling her about the circumstances that led to Doctor Who being canceled in 1989, which I doubt she found to be essential information, so I guess it's really an ongoing thing. XD I love that your encourage fannishness in your kids though! I feel like some parents quash their kids' enthusiasm, and it's so sad. When I tutored little kids, I'd always listen to them telling me about whatever, and they so love being listened to.
I like that I'm thorough and detailed in talking about my reading
I wish I was as good as you at that! Your thoughts are always interesting. I always find it difficult to articulate my thoughts about books. It's easier to have something to say about books I hated, for some reason!

Ha, yes! I still occasionally tell my mother about my fantasy series, and she listens patiently -- though at this point I have more of a captive audience in B and the rodents (which, I listen to B talk about his math papers, so I feel like I'm holding up my end, too :)

That is really sad, but I think you're right -- a lot of grown-ups either simply don't have the patience to listen, or they think books/games/cartoons are "silly" and the kids should be doing/talking about something "more important". I'm glad the kids you tutored had you to listen to them!

Action Girl / Non-Action Guy duos
Yes, those always do make a nice change!
And, aww, at your Tolkien story. It is lovely when random things like that happen in rl (as well as online where you expect it more).
Your good fannish things sound like good ones indeed. (And, ha, yes, it is a rather boring question, isn't it?)

I like Non-Action Guys and Action Girls separately as characters, too, but it's an especially fun trope in combination.

I really enjoy fannish serendipity! (Possibly this is why I ended up using a friending meme for a totally unrelated fandom to friend a bunch of fellow Discworld fans, and other such things :)

And thank you re: the icons, of course!
I hope you enjoy The Hanging Tree and the other books before it -- Broken Homes remains my favorite, I think, but I really liked Foxglove Summer, and The Hanging Tree was really good, too. And the allusions to various geeky things are one of my favorite things about Peter's voice, which is one of my favorite things about the series :D

1. I think I'm a good fannish role model for the rodents. I think it's good for them to see that one does not need to "outgrow" being passionate about fiction/stories, and that it's possible to make fannish connections that become real friendships, that it's OK to treat yourself to something like fannish swag if it makes you happy.
Confirmed and keep it up! :D
