40. M.C.A. Hogarth, Laisrathera -- this is a space opera(-romance, but emphasis is definitely on plot) trilogy set in the same universe as the cookie-baking asexual romance curtainfic books, but with actual plot and quite a bit less "pastoral" (to use the author's own word), and proved to

Also - HP was the first book I pre-ordered as well, I think. Can't remember which one, though.

I think HP was the first "phenomenon" book I experienced -- I, and many other people -- so that makes a lot of sense. Plus I guess it kind of hit during Amazon/the internet's growth years, too, when pre-ordering became much easier.

AHAHAHA, accurate.Totally pinching this meme.
I think book playlists are like fanmixes? Not that I have actually looked at any to work this out, that's just what I assumed. It may be more of a "listen to this while you read" thing, but yeah, I don't really listen to music while I read either.

Huh. I've encountered fanmixes for book fandoms, of course, but usually centered on a character or a theme rather than a book as a whole. And the other thing I've seen playlists used for in reference to books are the AUTHOR's playlists -- i.e. what they listened to when they wrote the thing. Which is an interesting concept
Actually, heh, now that I'm thinking about it, one book series I can think of that has an actual honest-to-goodness playlist -- with links to YouTube videos in the back -- is Lia Silver's Prisoner and Partner, who have a DJ as a protagonist, and thus an actual soundtrack of sorts :)

*raises hand* I've read that one. Only the first one, though. I liked the twists and felt it worked well as a one-shot, but I didn't feel like reading more. Also, I knew there was a different POV in every book and I would have gone for it if one of the books had been from the POV of the gay brother (Jamie?), but it was not to be.

Jamie is the gay brother, yep, and you're right that he doesn't get a POV -- although he does get an interesting story arc (and a boyfriend, although I don't think their relationship is a popular one in fandom).
The other POVs were interesting -- Mae's in book 2 made me appreciate her quite a bit more, and I liked getting a look inside the head of a previously minor character, with Sin in book 3, but I have to agree with the criticism that that POV was not well chosen for the actual PLOT of the story.

Oh, I know this so much... Not about this particular book, but the feeling itself. There is plenty of things, mostly books, that got 'wasted' to me this way and I wish I could have read them when I really wanted them. Not for the sake of the books themselves, but for the enjoyment I could have had then and I wouldn't have now.
