49. Lynn Flewelling, The Oracle's Queen (Tamir Trilogy #3) -- I read the first two books of this a long time ago, before I started my LJ, but I remember really liking the first one -- it was the good kind of creepy. The second one must've been somewhat of a letdown (as middle books of trilogies often are), because I didn't bother tracking down the ( Read more... )

I started the first book last night, and it's been not bad so far -- quite readable!

I literally remembered only one quote from Clockwork book - can you guess which? :D
Also, wait, there is kids of TID series?? The "forbidden parabatai het" one I had read was in Clary's timeline and with kids that showed up at Clary&Jace books... o_O I mean, they are still same old families of course >_>

Re: Jim's transformation back to human, I honestly tried to remember, but faaaaailed *laughs* It was some magical-herondale-angel-blood пианино из кустов, но суть вопроса словно корова языком слизала - not a single detail remained with me XDDD I guess we should ask someone who reads these books with more attentiveness than me! :D

My guess is on "Dear God, I thought she was marrying Gideon. I take it all back.", because I think that's the one that's going to stay with me :)

The TID kids one is new, I think, to come slightly staggered (later) but concurrently with the forbidden parabatai het series. And apparently the two series will be connected across time because they involve the same families, Blackthorns and Carstairs and such. According to the stuff in the back of my book, the first book of that won't be out till 2018.

(It did really drive home how the other writers from CC's group and vintage, Holly Black and sarahtales and Larbalestier keep writing new things -- different series in different universes, standalone books, etc., but with CC, 10+ years on, it will still be all Shadowhunters all the time apparently... Like, I'd love some more Tithe/Curseworkers books or the further adventures of the Demon's Noun gang, but I respect them for branching out even if not everything ( ... )

It was actually the radiant bride one XDD I forgot the entirety of Lightwood brothers drama by now, to be honest :D :D

YOU DON'T SAY. In the words of Iago, I am going to have a heart attack from not surprise -__-

add some years if you remember just how much it borrows from DV, at least in terms of characters and aesthetics *shrug emoji*

i'll petyr a bit around this post to see if someone volunteers a recap of what happened, but pls ping me if i miss it :D

PS. I'm finding Raven Boys such a quick, guilty pleasure read! it literally feels like a good fanfic you want to read on a rainy day...

The "radiant bride" was going to be my second guess :) -- the reason it wasn't the first one is that there is another quote later on in the book involving Will dressing up as a woman, and I figured you would either have remembered both or neither XP

LOL, yes! In a SHOCKING TWIST I'm sure there will be uncanny resemblance to kids from the original Shadowhunters gang, too.

You know, I'm even willing to give that a pass, because OK, some writers are just drawn to the same tropes or whatever. But this is literally mining the same seam forever and ever without looking up at anything else (except in short stories; she does have some unrelated short stories, it must be acknowledged).

It looks like the relevant bits from the Clary books happened in the second half of the hexalogy (which I actually can't remember if you read?), and aome... )

Emma and the Cortana sword, as well as Jem's ability to leave the Silent Brothers, show up in Book 6 of the modern series (City of Heavenly Fire). Not sure you really want to read books 4-6, though? I know you're not really keen on Cassie's penchant for melodrama. (I confess, however, I really REALLY like Jem, and I like the sort of odd triangle and bromance and such that are present between Will and Jem and Tessa - not because I like the romantic triangle ploy (because, yeah, it gets old), but just the way the three clearly care about each other. Anyway, when Will first thought Jem had died, and then, when Jem comes to say goodbye at the end, already separating himself emotionally from them - man, I cried.)

But, anyway - if you don't ever plan to read books 4-6, I could give you a brief summary of those points, if you wanted.

just the way the three clearly care about each other.

I did like that a lot! I confess, Jem remains a bit of a cipher to me (we never do get his POV, right? it's all Will and Tessa, of the three?), but I do like him. His bond with Will did strike me as a very true thing in the book, something I could feel even through the melodrama (and that I believed more than Jem and Tessa's love or Will and Tessa's UST). I do wish that they would just talk openly to each other and figure out something that would make all three of them happy *cough*threesome*cough*, rather than suffering needlessly for the sake of melodrama :P

I'm not sure I'll read books 4-6, probably more likely no than yes, and even if I do read them eventually, I don't mind spoilers at all. So yes, please, a summary of those points would be great!

(Oh, and thank you again for the book, of course! I was happy to be able to finish the series, and am intrigued about the one about the various kids of this generation.)
