ASOIAF Tarot post of DOOM

Jul 31, 2009 12:46

So I said to myself, hey, the westerosorting Tully bonus is ending soon, I should make some icons with Tullys on them. Three days of frantic activity, blowing off my f-list, going to bed past 1 a.m. (in spite of having to get up at 5:30), and sore wrists later, I have this sprawling icon set, only 2 of which are in any way related to Tullys. It would've been ( Read more... )

These are awesome. :)

Although I read The Devil really differently than it's presented here. For me it's all about temptation and longing and not so much "evil".

I might have gone with Oberyn.

Thank you! :D

Hmm, I don't think I've ever seen a reading of The Devil that stressed longing... temptation, yeah, which is why I ended up going with Euron over some of the other villains, but the deck/book/etc. I use(d) always stressed evil and general darkness of the human soul above even temptation. But when I was Googling around for card descriptions to help me come up with some of the tougher ones, I saw a lot of different readings for The Devil -- that one was kind of all over the place, seems to be...

My first deck emphasized the temptation aspect very strongly. The others have been slightly more balanced but still I've definitely gotten a stronger sense of it being about the baser part of human nature as opposed to evil.

Thank you! :DD I was really wondering what you would think, because I adore your HP Tarot matching and your look at ASOIAF Tarot, and you clearly know more about Tarot than I, so I'm glad you approve :D

If I do say so myself, Jaime makes a pretty good Death card. I'm still trying to figure out why Brienne seems like a good fit for the Sun, but she just did to me...

Yeah I think your pics are overall very good and suit the characters very well (I think Damphair as Hanged Man is the only one I'm a bit picky of).

And thank you #^_^#, I'm very far from an expert!!

Jaime's just awesome as Death. I dunno about Brienne either, but it really works well with her personnality.

The Hanged Man was kind of funny -- when I was dabbling in the Tarot, I remember having a lot of trouble with that card -- it just didn't make much sense to me -- so I read up on it a bunch, and somewhere found the "idiosyncratic spirituality" definition, and that's the one that stuck with me. So Damphair seemed to fit that really well, but then when I went looking up definitions, I actually couldn't find that one anywhere. He doesn't fit the definitions I did find particularly well, but since those never made sense to me in the first place...

Who would be your pick for Hanged Man?

As I've already stated elsewhere, I really love these.

So, now when are you starting on the rest of the Minor Arcana? (just kidding... sort of! ~_^ ) Wonder what images could be used for the various minor arcana cards... Ooooh, wouldn't that make an interesting discussion topic?

I've actually considered the rest of the Minor Arcana --even though that's patently CRAZY! I mostly considered it because the Red Wedding would make SUCH a stellar Ten of Swords card -- wouldn't it just? In fact, the whole suit of Swords should be pretty easy with ASOIAF -- it's finding something to fill out the Cups with that might be a challenge. At least until the end of the series, and probably even then... Unless one goes for the time before the series actually starts, I suppose...

Yes, you can't get much closer to the ten of swords than the Red Wedding. I do agree that finding images for the Cups suite would be a challenge. Swords and Wands would be fairly easy and even Coins not too difficult but Cups... a bit more of a problem.

Yeah, Coins could be filled out between Lannisters, Tyrells, and various folks like Littlefinger and Illyrio and so on, and Wands or Swords wouldn't be a problem, but Cups would be kind of tough. I will probably end up thinking about it, even though I'm afraid I'll get sucked in to the same matrix as with the Major Arcana... :P
