I have a really complicated jumble of thoughts on Imriel's trilogy. On one hand I really did not buy Imriel/Sidonie at all (mainly due to my irritation at Carey hitting us over the head with it.) And I found Imriel annoying more often than not.
On the other hand, I found that this trilogy went a long way into showing that Terra D'Ange isn't necessarily sparkly and perfect fun times. The D'Angeline cultural superiority in Phedre's trilogy annoyed me to no end, so I liked this new approach...
And yes, Sidonie got some excellent one liners. :)

I felt exactly the same way -- the cultural superiority REALLY bugged me in Phedre's trilogy (because it didn't seem like it was just Phedre's biased view -- which would've been annoying but at least understandable -- it seemed like representatives of other countries recognized D'Angeline superiority, too -- so either it was authorial bias, or Phedre was actually delusional...) -- anyway, really disliked that aspect of it, and was glad to see Imriel's trilogy tweak that considerably
