Hopefully I can be three-for-three and coincide with _grayswandir_'s Internet access again ;)

71. Sandman #3: Dream Country (by Neil Gaiman) -- no, the unrelated episodes format really doesn't work for me as well as the connected stories with occasional zooming in on a slice of life elsewhere. The individual stories are still neat, but the whole thing taken ( Read more... )

Okay, I really need to reread The Kindly Ones now, because now that you've said it, I remember that that volume probably was what made me really love the series. But like you, I sort of hated the art, so I never had much desire to go back and read it again. Poor Gilbert. And for some reason, Cain and Abel are two of my favorite characters from the series, so, yeah. Oy.

Hob is definitely favorite character, too, apart from Morpheus. Sometimes I think I even like him better than Morpheus. In any case, I always loved seeing new cameos from him. I had basically the same reaction to "Hob's Leviathan" that you had: "That story was awesome! But probably only because it was had Hob in it!"

wow, Morpheus has a kind of shitty track record with affairs of the heart, doesn't he? I wonder if it's all Desire's enmity or just his charming personality...*snerk* I'm guessing the latter, actually ( ... )

How is it that I never noticed you had this icon? or the Destiny one? I guess it's one of those things like when you learn a new word and suddenly start seeing it everywhere...

Having to balance the quality of the art in my regard for a given volume is rather difficult... The Kindly Ones was definitely the biggest disparity, but I kind of felt like the art in Season of Mists also wasn't that great -- lots of figures came off looking deformed, at least to me. The Wake had the prettiest art, I think, but the other ones I've read so far weren't too bad either... It's just disappointing that the strongest story has the most unfortunate art. Might be a matter of taste, of course, I dunno...

I love Hob. I now definitely want to re-read at least his bit in Season of Mists, because when I first read that, of course I had no idea who he was, though his lines were still pretty neat.

(I also can't wait until you have proper internet access. I miss our sprawling discussions! :)
