Wet tail.

Mar 24, 2005 00:00

Ryuichi has wet tail.

I have no idea what to do. I cleaned out his cage.

I'm calling the pet store tomorrow to see if they have anything to help him.

What should I do.

I'm like crying so hard right now.

Thanks.

from what i've heard and seen on this community you should take your hamster to a vet asap to get medicine for the wet tail. becuz most of the stuff you get at the petstores doesn't help the hamsters. i had a hamster pass away from wet tail even though i had bought that stuff from the petstore.so try to find a vet for your hammy.good luck!

Aren't any of the regular pet vets willing to give you some antibiotics? They may not specialize in rodents, but it's not rocket science either. If one turns you down, ask them if they know of anybody who can help?

I'll probably be calling around first thing in the morning looking for a vet to help me.

Our hamster had something that seemed to be wet tail 2 weeks ago. He was lethargic not eating or drinking, had poo stained bottom and lots of diarreah in his cage. We got him some wettail medicine from petsmart and mixed pedialyte with his water. Our hamster sipped the medicine right from the dropper. He is now fully recovered! It took a week or so but he is back to his old self. How old is your hamster?

He's around 8 months old.

Right now he's not even breathing right.

I'm just hoping he survives the night so I can try to help him.

Thanks for the advice.

All vet clinics have Baytril and Neomycin, the most commonly prescribed meds for wet tail. Call a vet that you or your friends trust for your other animals and explain the situation. Specifically ask if they could prescribe either of those meds. They should be able to help you out. Good luck, and I hope your baby makes it!

P.S. - There are 24 hour emergency vet clinics in most places now. Maybe look in the yellow pages to see if you could take him in?

Thanks. I'll be calling around in a few hours once places start to open.

The nearest emergency vet is at least 45 minutes away and the highway was closed last night because of snow.

I had to take Teddy to the ER once last year. The vet didn't specialize in exotics, but he was still able to help. He gave me a really small amount of dog medication actually. I guess just do what everyone else suggested and see if a regular vet can help out.

I'll be thinking good thoughts for Ryuichi :)

Having worked in a pet store, the Dri-Tail medication works most of the time.. It depends how quickly you catch the wet tail.

We usually gave the hammies a few drops of the Dri-Tail inthe morning and night, and gave them tetracyclene in their water.

Just try to keep him warm, and keep him drinking water.

Good luck <3

I called the pet store today and got some dri-tail.

It was too late though. I was force feeding it to him and giving him water. He was fighting with me, but the last two hours he won't even move.

He's hardly breathing.
