Can hamsters have cheetos? Just the thought of seeing my ham holding a cheeto excites me. I would think it was ADORABLE ( Read more... )

I would not feed a hamster cheetos because of all the chemicals that go into the "cheese". And with the peanut butter you have to be careful; if they get it in their cheek pouches, they can't get it out. I would be inclined to only feed a thin smear of it that the hamster has to lick off.

And yes, I would put bedding in the travel cage, otherwise your hamster will be sliding all over the place in the car. Food shouldn't be necessary unless it's a long trip or you want the hamster to feel more comfortable.

Over here (the UK) you can actually buy hamster snacks which look remarkably similar to Cheetos. You could maybe try looking in a larger pet store to see if there's anything like that there. Artificial human food (as in anything processed with colourants/additives) is not so great for little hamsters.

Agreed! Beauregard has these little neon green vegetable flavored puffs that look just like Cheetos. ^_^

I agree with the others, I wouldn't give a Cheeto to a hamster, even though I have given them bits of human food before-- a Cheeto is just past that 'way too unhealthy' line.

I also wouldn't leave a peanut butter bar in with a hamster for two reasons-- one, hamsters will stuff their cheek pouches with the peanut butter and it could get impacted in them, needing surgery to remove the pouch. This is why most hamster owners stay away from sticky treats. And two, leaving a very high fat product in with a hamster to chew on all the time will lead to a very tubby hamster.

When transporting hamsters, bring some kind of watery food for them to chew on (apples, cucumbers, watermelon, lettuce) so they're able to stay hydrated (since it's virtually impossible to have a water bottle in a car without it spilling everywhere during the drive.)
