Oliver's operation

We checked Oliver into the vet's this morning for the "experimental micro-surgery" to replace his exerted pouch, then picked him up this evening. We were both worried he wouldn't survive the anaesthetic, especially as he's been losing weight lately and doesn't seem to be as robust as his brother, but he appears to have coped remarkably well! The vet put him under, pushed the pouch back in, and stitched from the outside to secure it. She did consider removing the pouch, but said there would be such a lot of tissue involved that it might've caused a rather large wound. She'd never done the procedure before today, so she couldn't say whether it would be successful or not - they didn't even have a cost for it in their price list, so they made one up!

He needs to go back on Monday for a check-up, then again in a few weeks to have his stitches taken out. We're really hoping that the pouch will stay where it's supposed to from now on, but only time will tell, I suppose. We gave him lots of kisses and cuddles this evening. :D He's been extremely brave!
