All but one of Cujo's pups have moved onto new homes/the pet store. The last one is the little red-eyed cream-colored long-haired pup (woo, a mouthful!). He was always very friendly before when his brothers were still with him, but I noticed since they have all found news homes, he is constantly petrified of me. Even when I try to replace his food ( Read more... )

the hamster would probably need some time to adjust to their new owner even if he was completely adjusted to you... so just give them the same advice you'd follow and see if he comes around in a new home, etc.

He probably just needs some time. He's been with his family up until then... I'm sure he'll come around. :)

That sounds like the hamster I just got. I just feel that she hates me. It's a really discouraging feeling, and I feel like a total loser. If anyone can give me any advice, I'd realy appreciate it. I hope all goes well your red-eyed cream hamster because then there's some hope for me.

I think it's separation anxiety in the case of the pup - it's only about 28 days old or so (still very tiny).

Cujo - the formerly pregnant hamster that spawned the little red-eyed devil - is now just as sweet as she could be. She used to nip and hated being handled. Give it time - keep trying to handle the hamster but move slowly. Use a glove if the hamster nips at you - they friggin' hurt when they bite! Use healthy treats and wash your hands with the same soap every time so your scent is familiar. Speak in a soft voice and all that jazz. It might take a few months, but the hamster will come around. It took Cujo giving birth and being so happy to finally have her own cage to act pleasant. :)
