Ali comes as requested, though a bit delayed as she has to change. Somehow "busy mommy chic" doesn't really work in 1918. So, once she's dressed properly and has her hair in some semblance of order, and only then, she arrives at the door.

And let's not ask how she got there; hopefully the servants weren't keeping too close a watch.

Hans smiles warmly and embraces her upon her arrival (and perhaps he sneaks in a kiss as well).

"My love," he says, "you look wonderful."

If he doesn't sneak a kiss, she certainly will!

"Thank you." Ali smiles, brushing a hand across his cheek. "So do you, as always."

"You are too kind," Hans says, as he often does when she compliments him, but it seems he does not so much mean it. It has simply become something he says, his way of saying thanks.

"You are well, I hope? And the children?"
