Your Joshua Tree gallery makes me nostalgic. When I was at Harvey Mudd I got out there several times and found it magical. One time my father and I were hiking and got separated from the trail, walked along a dry creek bed for a while, along a ridge, and came across someone's old claim for a copper vein folded up and tucked into a tin can. And then rushed back to the car before the storm hit.
