theocracy sucks

This is a good example of why I never want to live in a theocracy. The religious nutbars in our country who think that separation of church and state is a bad thing are cordially invited to 1) visit someplace that has no such separation and see how they like it, and 2) suck it.

religion, blog against theocracy, wtf

Aside from the most obvious problems with the First Amendment, the big problem with a Theocracy is that it legitimizes barbaric practices by pinning the responsibility on someone who does not actually exist: God.

They'd never go for that, as obviously a theocracy anywhere else wouldn't have the rules that exactly matched their own... or at least they wouldn't be the ones in power to claim exceptions to those rules. Convenient, no?

Worth noting that when Catholicism was about as old as Islam is now, they had about the same attitude (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Wycliffe). So, they're about due for a protestant-esque split in about two hundred years, although the whole Sunni/Shiite thing not splitting quite as geographically as western/eastern orthodoxy might have them on a slightly different schedule.

Most of the people you'd be addressing this to would react with equal horror and not understand why you think the problem is separation of church and state and not a barbaric religion ( ... )

Yeah, this is pretty much what I was thinking, not least as I remember the religion of my youth.

Yeh, mostly #2. Because they would in fact think that the problem was the religion in question, which is not theirs, and is therefore the work of SATAN... but a Christian theocracy, well, that's precisely what they are so looking forward to in the post-Armageddon Millenium. Fervently.
