announcing Project Positivity

Feb 22, 2010 02:49

Last week I started thinking about how my life might change for the better if I looked for ways to translate negative thoughts into positive thoughts and/or actions. As a way to motivate myself, as well as to counteract my occasional bitching, I've decided to post my successes here periodically. If this idea appeals to you, feel free to play along ( Read more... )

And having clean sinks and toilets will, in turn, be rewarding. A virtuous circle.

More virtuous circle -- the less you let things like toilets get out of hand, the easier they are to keep from getting out of hand. So double win.

'Struth. It's amazing how much nicer the bathrooms are when at least the surfaces are clean.

Today some of the people on the road are distracted or impatient.
But I know it is unsafe to give in to my distraction and impatience. I can protect myself and make things safer for them.

If I'd been writing in English instead of in Twitter I would have added that it's my observation that most people don't get up in the morning, look in the mirror, and decide to be Hitler. They're just squishy organisms trying to do the best they can, and usually thinking about anything else except you, an equally squishy organism also doing the best you can. Whenever we can think about them or ourselves with a little sympathy and insight, we make the world better.

I should probably also mention that I learned a lot of this stuff 30 years ago when I was in therapy for being a battered wife. At that time it was very 12-steppy, and reframing was a big deal. So I did a lot of it. It may be something where my extra years of life experience are actually seeming useful, so I'm probably over-doing it. You're welcome to tell me to shut up. I just feel like "Hey, pick me! I know this one!"

Those are good things, indeed, and it sounds like the worst of your post-surgical pain has passed by now, too.

I will probably join you on this... taura_g February 22 2010, 14:43:32 UTC
But probably not until next week.

I was thinking I would put the call out for bakers for the first bake sale though... At least trying to behave positively.

Thank you for taking the initiative on that post! I think we've got a good lineup of bakers so far.
