What ever happened to creativity?

Okay... below is a full fledged rant so if you don't want to read that just skip this post.

Over the past few years I have got this feeling that creativity is slowly dying. To be replaced by flashiness and sensationalism. There are still sparks of it here and there... but as a whole it's dying. At least where books and movies are concerned.

When Rowling announced that Dumbledore was gay, I was a bit shocked. Although, deep down, I think I had always suspected it. It wasn't something that I thought about and tried to analyze, but just a niggling feeling in the back of my brain saying "Ah, yes".

I love descriptions, but ones that go on and on and on make me want to tear my hair out. I'm all for knowing what a person looks like, but I don't need to everything about them. Once an author does that, it turns me off the story and I really need to decide if I'll keep reading or not.

I haven't seen any movies lately that are worth mentioning. I'm hoping that after the writer's strike ends here, then hopefully we'll get better movies out next year. I'm not holding my breath though.

Hey Laree. Great to hear from you. *hugs*

Yes, the writers strike is a major pain in the butt. I wish they'd just give them what they want already.

Though I agree with almost everything else in your rant, I have to say that Rowling's "outing" of Dumbledore didn't come as a great shock to me. Though I won't pretend I'd ever thought Dumbledore was actually gay, trying to pair him with any character in the story (either canon or even original) never seemed right.

I know a lot of people weren't surprised. But then again a lot of people were quite stunned. My beef was the crack about Intelligent people seeing the subtle clues.
