My department head in the Music Faculty had seen it and recommended it with super-dooper enthusiasm which, by previous accounts, did more to warn me off going rather than propel me into the cinema. It was all that I expected, really. The story really was terrible and the leading man (although Australian) was the picture of the bull-headed 'American marine' left-thinking Aussies love to hate.
