beautiful, and bittersweet, and it seems all these Elizabeth remembering James fics are. I think what makes them so is everything that was left unsaid, especially on his side, and I love how you have given him a voice for those feelings.

I think this is beautiful. And I think you've hit on something when he says "I have always known I was going to die for you." In that moment on the Dutchman, he realises that this was always how it was going to end. Still doesn't stop me being bitter though - why couldn't he die for her in the final battle? Then they may have spoken more. Still, it does allow for fics like this, which are simple and short and all the better for it.

THank you for reviewing! I know what you mean, both about his knowing and the crapness of the actual dying! I have a tonne of other (happier) Norribeth fics, including some where I've managed to find a way for him to avoid his fate!
