Heinlein (I think) said that we ought to do presidential elections by lottery. If the winner was pleased to have won, he or she should immediately be sent off to an asylum and the lottery repeated.
Don't remember it in Heinlein, but it wouldn't be totally out of character for him.
Every time they get into, for example, how intelligent the candidates are, I think, "I'm provably smarter than ALL of you, seeing as I don't want the job!" Heh.
This is why I find that I can't really listen to talk radio, even when it's progressive, like "Air America". It always degenerates into people talking "at" each other. The goal of most radio call-in shows is not to come to a considered solution. Al Franken's show, which isn't on anymore, was enjoyable for me because of his even vocal tone and the fact that he didn't take phone calls. Even NPR can get contentious when people are putting in their two cents. It's a shame, because sometimes it's nice to listen to talking instead of music in the car.
