Meanwhile, in the blast furnace...

We had a few days of reprieve before the next Doom Cycle begins. And by 'reprieve,' I mean 92-96o days instead of 99o-plus.

I got out for a nice ride last Thursday-it was only 80o by the time I finished. Right now, I'm lucky if that's the starting temperature! Friday was a rest day after 9 days of biking in a row, because I was just too tired, ( Read more... )

Our doom cycle lasts from June until October here :(

Here, it's frequently May-October too!

During our summers, the "reprieves" are usually the rare days here and there (sometimes as much as a week) where it's below about 94. And the major heatwaves are when it's about 102-115. /o\

I'm guessing it's similar for you? Along with the tendency to console yourself with pathetic thoughts like, "Hey, at least it's not Phoenix..." :O

I feel you with this heat! I haven't been out hiking in weeks because it's just too much to handle. :( I actually tried last weekend because I was missing it, but I made it about half a mile before I had to turn around because I felt like I was going to die.

Plus, you have the humidity where you are--so even if you go earlier in the day, it probably doesn't help much. :(

Man, global warming is the pits... Does it cool down there as you head into Fall? Sometimes, Sacramento gets this kind of heat clear into October. :O

What's "Fall"? lol

We usually don't get consistently cool weather here until January! It's often in the mid- to upper-70s on Christmas. :( Although, I guess considering how bad the summers get, upper-70s can be downright balmy.

Hahahaha! "Fall" is much the same here. It's usually summer forever, and then there are 2-6 weeks where it's maybe not scorching (so, theoretically that's the Fall), and then the rains and/or fog come, and it's Winter.

Our winters can get all the way down to the mid-40s on the coldest days, so not as warm as yours. But pretty mild compared to most places, and they feel "winterish" by comparison to the godawful 3/4ths of the year that are Summer. :O

We're starting a heat wave here too and I'm already sick of it.

The first seasons of Castle are the best! I'd love to be abe to back and watch them and forget the second half of the series exists...

I only saw the occasional Castle episode here and there when it first ran, mostly in the beginning. The first two seasons are delightful, though I know things fell apart later, and I'll probably want to get 3 and 4 too. Any idea about when it jumps the shark? I know Stana Katic left the show, and yet the show had at least one more season without her (and what is the point?). It makes me think of Sleepy Hollow, where the show progressively marginalized one of its two stars to the point where it became unwatchable AND she left the show--as if the producers never understood that the chemistry and interaction of the two main characters was the actual point of the show and outweighed every other aspect of it (especially when the other aspects were a batshit-crazy mytharc). :O

No, Stana never left! There was a rumour she wanted to, but the show was cancelled before she did.

You'll notice when the episodes start getting more serious all the time. The first season it's mostly comedy with a couple serious episodes, and at some point it starts being the opposite.

The Doom Cycle sucks. I'm so ready for fall/winter. Though I shouldn't complain. You have it so much worse up your way. Still, I'm ready for summer to be over. Ugh.

I've never seen Castle. How is it? And I loved the Sarah Conner Chronicles. I hated the way they ended it but it was such a fun series. And Six Feet Under is one of my favorites. It was a brilliant show. The ended just left me gutted. IT was so good though.

Hope you're well!

Summers here are SO awful because of the heat, and frequently there's wildfire smoke off and on. They're consistently evil. :(

The first few seasons of Castle are fun, though I know that doesn't last into the later seasons. So, fun enough to watch for awhile? And believe me, I need some serious entertainment when I'm biking in the garage for 1 to 1 1/2 hours at a time. :O

I agree about the ending to Six Feet Under. Gut-wrenching, but also SO good. Very satisfying for fans of the show.

For the ending of the SCC, I was pained by where it left a couple of the characters. Truly sad!!! And the body-count of the last 6 or so episodes...

But I mostly hated that the series ended at ALL. I loved the cast and the writing, and Cameron and Ellison in particular spoke to me in a way I never expected. So many good shows killed after just 1-2 seasons because their own networks didn't understand what they had. :(

How are things going with you these days? Still so busy you can hardly keep your head above water?
