That doesn't surprise me. The three years I lived in Illinois and worked as a radio announcer, I would get calls from people asking, "What country are yew from?"

"This one."

"But where dew people talk like yew dew?"

"All of the big, urban cities on the West Coast."

You only have to sound a little bit "other" for people to hear it as really different.

And there was one guy from somewhere in the tidal South who complained that I was pronouncing the intern's name the same way as his.

"But they ARE pronounced the same," I said.

"No, mine is Don, and hers is DOH-wan."

And I actually said, "If I were from New Jersey, maybe." Or maybe any Northeastern area? That sound he was making for "Dawn" was the same vowel sound some people back East use for "caught."

Which, on my coast, sounds exactly the same as "cot." Just like those two names sound the same. :O

Holy Moly! I read the Idol Final Tribal Council post and my goodness, I had No IDEA that was what Idol was all about. I thought it was simply a writing competition with some challenges and surprises thrown in, but having never seen either Survivor show, I had no idea how anything was played and wow, there was a LOT going on behind the scenes

I put my head back on the couch and closed my eyes and fell asleep right after I posted this. I just now woke up!

I did maths today. It literally wore me out :D

I enjoy math, but math that feels like it's way over my head (my sophomore year, studying Differential Equations with no context for it) makes me nearly comatose. :O

I thought it was simply a writing competition with some challenges and surprises thrown inThat's USUALLY what Idol is about. This mini-season was a special version, which the host wanted to be as much like the Survivor TV show as he could make it, because that has been a dream of his for years. It was really different, and a major creative enterprise for him. But it created some difficult competitive dynamics and a lot more stress than the regular game. I gained about 7 pounds over the course of these 6 months (*sob*), and for the harassment issue... that was really unfortunate, but also really out of character for the person who instigated it. I think the stress pushed her to behave in a way she ordinarily wouldn't, and that's really too bad
