She'll be going to Hastings, which is in San Francisco. The first semester, at least, can be done remotely, so she's still living in San Diego. We would love to have her here at home, living rent free, but she's very independently-minded.
Still, it's SO nice to have her visiting. She'd hoped to get up here for another trip back in April, but her roommates vetoed the additional exposure to possibly getting the coronavirus. It's understandable.
Once remote learning ends (and who knows when that will be!), she plans to live in the city. The rent is so expensive that she's in no hurry. I think she'll love it, once she does though. It's an amazing place with SO much to do, especially for a young person. And you can walk to almost everything.
She'll miss San Diego, though (which she loves), and its weather.
your daughter's going to law school?? wasn't she just leaving for college, like, yesterday? congrats to her, tho! it's very exciting. and i bet it was nice to see her, masked and all.
It seems like it was just yesterday! And a tough, painful day that was, too. :O
But her law school is at least within about 3-4 hours driving distance of here, as opposed to 10-14 (depending on traffic). So we're hoping we might see her a little more often.
And she's here through Saturday, so still a few more days left to at least be with her, though hugless is hard. :(
I didn't know your daughter was starting law school. That's awesome and very exciting! What kind of law does she want to practice?
Man, we've been over 100 for several days and it's going to be over 100 for the next week or so. I don't go outside during the day any more if I can help it.
Surprisingly, now that I'm working from home in my bedroom during the day with the door shut, it actually gets very cool in there. I have to keep the door closed while George is working from home in the family room because he watches TV all day and I can't concentrate with the noise. I like listening to music while I work and I stream playlists on Spotify like "Jazz Vibes", "Workday Lounge", and "Focus Flow". Music with lyrics, or podcasts, also distract me so instrumental is the only way to go :)
She's thought about immigration law, because she's so frustrated with the broken system and people being warehoused with no ability to claim asylum. Civil rights law interests her (going way back), as does criminal prosecution (like, working for a District Attorney's office).
How can George work with the TV running all day? If I really need to concentrate, silence is best. If I'm also trying to drown out noise, then I'll pick classical, but it's a bit distracting. Music with lyrics is generally reserved for when I'm testing something and cranking through repetitive debugging. It's no good while I'm coding-- words interfere with my code words!
It's like creative writing--I can't do that while lyrics are playing. :O
That's wonderful that she's civic-minded. Her generation has the ability to make a huge impact on this country's future. It's just a shame that they have to be the ones that have to fight to clean up other generations' messes.
George literally cannot be in a room with a TV and not have it on. Our kitchen eating area is open to the downstairs family room and he sits at the end of the table that faces the TV in the family room. You can actually see the TV from the entire kitchen area and anytime he is in the kitchen, whether it's cooking or eating, the TV is on. And it's loud so he can hear it :(
If we go to a restaurant that has a TV in the eating area (usually mounted on a wall), he positions himself at the table so he can watch it.
If we go to someone's house, like his family, he will turn the TV on if it's not already. If we go to a friend's house, he will ask them to turn it on. Can watching TV be an addiction? Because with him it is.

It's hot here today. We've had a string of hot days, though I don't think anywhere near your temps.

Our heat is making me nuts. We keep returning to that zone near 100 degrees, for weeks at a time, adn it's just oppressive. :(
