So, the weekend was...

... noisy and a little frenetic. The boys all cleaned up after their all-night video-game extravaganza pretty well, and no major damage was done. The grownups were worn out, but we survived, and the boys all had fun. Then our son had a volunteer orientation to go to (which we didn't realize was six hours long--wow), followed by going camping the ( Read more... )

Desolation Wilderness has a ton of snow right now! But snow camping is fun when it's not snowing!

Don killed a HUGE rattlesnake for an elderly neighbor Saturday! We have NEVER seen them at this elevation. Yikes!

My favourite Folsom Lake rattlesnake story (and they ARE there) is this - in the early 80's a family was out there waterskiing and a teenage girl fell down while skiing and while the boat was circling back for her she swam to a floating log to hang on and the log was filled with baby rattlesnakes. I know this sounds like a folktale. It's not.

Glad you're digging Better Call Saul. It blew us away. And yes, Mike. *cries*

That's the thing-- none of the boys even considered that they would be above the snow line there. And they don't have snow camping equipment. Plus, if you're going to hike... it helps to be able to see the trail. None of them had the experience to do something like that ( ... )

*screams and runs away*

According to everyone, there are rattlers out here but all I've ever seen are copperheads. Those are bad enough.

Doesn't that just sound dreadful? And I don't even have issues with reptiles, as long as they aren't deadly.

I'm so glad there is, at most, one type of poisonous snake out here. There are several varieties of rattlesnake, but all of the various deadly water snakes and such back East would be a lot harder to avoid!

Well, I won't bore you with my wonky body woes ;)

In other news SO needs a new-to-him vehicle but hasn't found anything in his price range yet. He's aiming for a SUV (aka Boyz Transport) since I had the Jeep; ergo, "it's your turn". He took my car to a client out in western MA today. He probably won't get home until well after rush hour.

We've been binging on "The Murdoch Mysteries" on Netflix. OMG, I NOW UNDERSTAND WHAT FANDOM IS ALL ABOUT!

I've seen the posts on the body woes, and I wish the various parts were behaving themselves better. At least you now have a pain management plan other than, "Oh, I don't know, is it really that bad? Take some aspirin."

SUVs are incredibly expensive. I really like them (apart from the gas mileage), but our 4-Runner is 20 years old now and I worry about when we have to replace it. No signs of that yet-- some cosmetic issues, but still running great! But someday, that headache will be upon us. I hate buying cars.

Hmm, Murdoch Mysteries. We haven't watched those!

I left you a more detailed pain management explanation on my last entry :) I haven't taken anything since this morning. I'm a little achy but that's because I walked the Boyz not too long ago. I also found an article about how there are more and more people under the age of 60 getting knee replacements, which gives the medical community pause because replacements generally have a 20 year life span and they hesitate to operate on people who are 70-plus. Basically it's "hang in there until it affects your everyday life". Whee ( ... )

"Keep on hoping! It's like denial, but in prettier clothes!"

Love this!

Sounds like your weekend went very well, after all. :-)

Hee!

Yes, despite the frenzy of it all, it was better than I'd hoped it would be. Next weekend I should actually be at home both days (thanks to leaving for and returning from San Diego a day earlier than initially planned). But I'll probably be pretty tired. :O

Sounds like you need to schedule some serious relaxing/pampering time, even if it's only a good long soak in the tub with your favorite music, a galss of wine and a good book. I'd highly recommend some good chocolate withe that too. ;-)

Glad to hear that the boys cleaned up after the party :)

My friend went through something similar with her iPod and eventually gave up after several hours of googling and struggling, got her sister's mp3 player and took it to her trip.

I've actually wanted to start watching the third season of Homeland this weekend! I've only watched the first two so far.

I swear, that mp3 will probably wind up coming with me. I spent a couple more hours on it last night, having successfully downgraded to an earlier iTunes version. THAT one doesn't even see the iPod, as opposed to seeing it and not allowing you to download to it.

Argh... I'll be needing those NightVale episodes just to help the boredom of that trip. :O

It's been so long since we saw "Homeland" that I can't remember whether we're in S1 or S2! Loved the cast, though, and the "wall o' crazy" is such a running joke with us for so many shows. :)

Spending 10 days w fam and friends in not so sunny Florida. My niece graduated. It's at times dysfunctional. The mothership is not as pleased as she thought she'd be with life down here, but she's treating me well this visit.

Are you leaving or joining the storm problem in Florida? Or skirting it at both ends?

I think that for your sake, it's better that the mothership is down there. All grief and no appreciation can be someone else's problem now, and maybe she's treating your brother better, who knows?
