You may remember my daughter's crustacean phobia. We ran across a photo from a play in the San Francisco Chronical over the weekend, and while technically not a crustacean, creepy enough. She'd gone to the beach the day before, so my husband sent it to her in an email with "DID YOU ENJOY THE BEACH????!!!!???" as the subject line:

that photo series is really, really interesting. it's not just the clothes and hair and accessories that make a difference, but how tall each partner is and how they stand. if the point is to call into question gender roles and the fixed, binary nature of gender in the first place, i think it was pretty successful.

Yes, I forgot about the height thing-- the poses were very careful to vary that, while still looking natural, and you got a sense of how much is assumed based on small details that might not add up to your idea of the truth.
