well this is a bit creepy! makes me wonder what happened to the previous inhabitant of the tower, too....

I'm thinking that the Apprentice may have been oversold on his role in that entire relationship. :O

Creepy was what I was definitely going for!

Oh man, this was one seriously creepy story! I got a bad feeling about those mysterious books from the start of this piece. I also get the feeling that the poor apprentice here is likely to meet a bad end.

I most certainly do not trust the old man. I hope the apprentice can escape, but I somehow doubt he can. Am I right about that?

You are correct! That poor apprentice is doomed. Whatever he thought that old man was, it probably wasn't "wizard." The only lesson to be learned is the one that comes too late to change the future.
