Thank you! I really liked the prompt, but I just couldn't seem to write it quickly (I was up until almost 2, finishing this and posting it so it would make the deadline). :)
Thank you! I'd hoped to make it less dialogue-heavy, but it really wanted to be exactly this.
That conversation seemed so Peter to me, too. His grandfather probably ran a hardware store or something, but he would totally try to zing Neal with a fib like that. ;)
Oh, boys! The banter here is so good, and I could absolutely picture it in my head like it was part of an episode. Neal's discomfort with small town life and Peter's comfort with it was very telling and very much how I see them in my head canon. Thank you so much for sharing!
Neal might have spent time in a small-ish town as a child, but he so obviously prefers the excitement and culture of a big city, and in his adult years has noticed that it's harder to be anonymous in small places (not that he's supposed to care anymore).
Peter is far less mistrustful, at least of things like diner food and small town locals. :)
This is beyond adorable. The banted is incredibly spot-on, it's simply a delight to read. ROFL, love the bit about rubber chickens, this is so Peter! OMG, seriously, this is FTW :D
It's funny, after I stalled-out on getting this done by the original deadline, I took it up again later and the part about the rubber-chicken farming was added in then. But it seemed so Peter! He has kind of a sneaky sense of humor, and why not tweak Neal's snobbishness with a story like that?

"Well, you've insulted the family honor now. My grandfather farmed rubber chickens…"
"Ah." Neal surveyed the Brooks' Brother's suit Peter was wearing. "The source of the Burke family fortune."
"Or lack thereof. Not a lot of money in rubber chickens…"
FTW!!!!!!!!!!
