"Run," Daddy said, "take your brother and run."
So, Dean held Sammy tight and rushed downstairs, out into the yard.
He waited there for his parents to come tell him it was over, that everything was fine.
An upstairs window showed nothing but fire (Sammy's room). That was bad, but couldn't the fireman stop it? (Where were the sirens?) It didn't mean they'd lose the whole house. It wasn't the end of the world.
Dean shivered under the stars, for what seemed like forever.
A siren sounded in the distance as his father finally stumbled out of the house.
Alone.
