Sammy was almost in tears, clutching his toy rabbit so hard Dean was afraid it would spring a leak. There'd definitely be crying then.
He cleaned Sam's knee with a warm washcloth and brushed the gravel free as gently as he could. "How do you get yourself into these things?"
"Tommy Brewer said there were kittens behind the store, but I fell in the parking lot."
"Oh."
Not from fighting, like Dean had (even then), but from something innocent, like any other six-year-old. That was Sam, through and through
Dean wondered how much longer that would last.
