The ballroom-dancing prompt led me straight to that episode, because it seemed like such a perfect setup. And what a great chance for Sam to show that he has, in fact, grown up and done it well. :)

I think he was too-- and he so deserves those turnaround moments, where Sam suddenly proves himself to be awesome at something Dean didn't even know Sam could do!

I spent some time watching dance videos last night as research, and all of those look kind of hard to me period! Though the Lindy and the Charleston still look like tons of fun, and many of the Latin dances are really sexy.

And Dean had that coming, I think, holding Sam's awkward adolescence against him like that was going to be a lifelong thing. ;)

Oh, that was delightful! That was even better than I was hoping! Thank you so much for this, and even doing research for it. It actually provides a little retcon for a story I'm working on about those dance classes they took.

(My ex-husband and I did a tango for our wedding dance, and my dear friend Sean used to run with a bunch of Swing Kids in Ybor City in the '90's, and taught me some basic swing. I miss swing dancing.)

Yay, I'm so glad you liked it! Your second version of the prompt kicked this off immediately, and the S3 episode created a perfect behind-the-scenes opportunity.

The research honestly was to see what fell into the "ballroom dance" category that Dean would find impressive instead of froofy, silly or spastic. I think the Charleston and Lindy would be a blast to dance, but they're kind of frenetic for a solo demonstration, and the rhumba gets a little campy in places (let's not even get into some of the parts of the pasa doble).

Those video samples I dug up around midnight last night really helped- and convinced me that things like the tango are probably beyond me!
