(Oops! Thank goodness for the edit facility!)

Mmmm!! Some genuine Michael-angst! Lucky clair_de_lune!! :)

In a way it's commendable that, despite Veronica owning the one part of Lincoln that Michael craved, he couldn't hate her. I think that says a lot about his characteristic loyalty. And the torture Michael seemed to go through every time she came back into Lincoln's life was heartbreaking.

She stole the light from the sky, leaving Michael lonely and trapped in darkness, isolated from the only thing he'd ever wanted.

Fabulous line! Poor Michael completely crushed in that one sentence!

Yet another wonderful M/L tale from one of the best exponents of M/L in the fandom, sweetheart!! I'm sure our girl will be deliriously thrilled with this one! :)

*hugs*

I hope Katrine likes it. She was probably thinking more along the lines of schmoopiness, though I wrote a couple of those recently and it was easier to work with a different flavor.

Yes-- having been friends already from the beginning, and knowing it's not her fault (and that what he wants will probably never happen anyway)... I can't see him being able to hate her.

:D You found MY favorite line in the story, definitely!

I'm glad you enjoyed this, and I hope the birthday girl does too!

I really enjoyed this, especially given that I like Lincoln/Veronica too. It's a bit painful but always interesting to see pairings I appreciate being confronted.

The jealousy and the fact that Michael knows he can't say anything place him in a terrible spot. The yearning and agony he goes through here are heart-wrenching. So many little touches to show this, but I particulary like these:
Either way, he kept them hidden, forced to watch every time Veronica waltzed into Lincoln's life again and soaked up the attention Michael craved for himself.
They spend their evenings watching TV together, with Michael sitting as close as he dared and even occasionally pretending to fall asleep on Lincoln's shoulder.
But then one night the phone would ring, and Lincoln's voice would get low and intimate. Michael's heart always sank at the sound of it, because he knew what was coming.
And I'll second Foxy about the light vs darkness sentence.

But he still liked her as much as he resented her, and it bothered him that he couldn't separate those two ( ... )

I also like Linc/V, and I have many of the same feelings you do.

We know that Michael has affection for Veronica. And - in addition to her always coming back to Lincoln - it only serves to make the situation worse for him.
It's impossible to separate the guilt from resenting her out of his affection for her. Hating her would be easier, but it's not in his nature, so he suffers doubly in this emotional trap.

Not only does she have what he wants so much, but she also doesn't appreciate it the way he would. From the outside, we can understand why Veronica (who became a lawyer) might keep leaving Lincoln (who became a druggie and a criminal). And we can also understand the deadly attraction that keeps bringing her back ( ... )
