There's a real appreciation of simple things here, because now they know how bad it can get-and how much better they have it. Almost feverish, in that moment when the door opens and they meet eyes.

Especially with Lincoln having been in prison (in Juvie, then later later as an adult), they know what it is to be separated and to have no control over even the most ordinary moments and choices.

All of this is during the in-between period before Lincoln goes back to prison that final time, but neither of them knows that's coming. For now, there's a sense of innocence in having what they've waited for. Being together is a luxury all by itself.
