Thanks, Jas! It definitely worked better for not being a drabble-- I think the overriding tone would have been bittersweetness, and Dean would never have arrived at that self-discovery.

We all grow up, inevitably. No need to hurry, especially when darkness is the only thing that's waiting. Play a few board games, roll in the grass... enjoy it while you can!

Love how Sammy's gifts help Dean remember he's a kid, and that John also knows Dean still needs some time as a child. Lovely.

With his childhood stolen away the night his mother died, Dean know s what he lost while Sam can only imagine (and I think Dean and John protected him from some of the horror that neither of them could forget).

How nice, just for a little while, to stop rushing headlong toward a future that is more bleak than Dean can possibly realize. Enjoy what you have, and the family you have it with. Even if maybe YOU wanted to be the red robot yourself. ;)

Yay! I haven't written lengthy Wee!Chesters in so long, and I honestly have very little sense of how it's going to come off to other people. But this one at least worked out the way I intended it to, and after a dry spell that's a relief!
