With Ruby there below them, a shell as empty as the bitter dispute that divided them, the impasse faded into the shadows. All the harsh words and bitter reasons fell silent.
This-choosing each other-was what remained.
Dean's eyes held apologies for all he'd done (the things he'd thought), while Sam gave voice to soul-deep regret. Their mistakes were far bigger than just two men.
Inside those seconds, forgiveness flowed faster than the blood ominously circling the floor.
I- and Let's- were buried in a spiral of light.
The thought they shared instead was primal, desperate and immediate:
Run.
